Soup Kitchen for the Homeless & Impoverished
The Manhattan Church of Christ
Date/Time: Saturdays

10am - 2pm
Location: Manhattan Church of Christ, 48 East 80th Street, NY
The Saturday Lunch Program provides hot meals with dignity and compassion to the homeless or those who live marginally. All shifts are family-friendly and involve a set-up team to set tables and decorate, a service team to run trays of food back and forth to the guests, and a break down & clean up team. Volunteers help set up, prepare and serve meals, then break down and clean up.
Ages: Families with children of all ages are welcome to participate
Time Commitment: Varies, come for a few hours or stay for the entire shift!

Spring Into Action!
Brooklyn Community Services
Date/Time: Various dates from March 20 - April 4.
Location: Various locations throughout Brooklyn
BCS was founded by volunteers in 1866 in response to the plight of Civil War veterans and homeless children who lost their fathers in the war. Volunteerism remains at the heart of what they do. Spring into Action is the signature volunteer initiative of Brooklyn Community Services (BCS). Now in its 6th year, Spring into Action has galvanized thousands of volunteers. This year, they are proud to offer more than 20 service opportunities that impact Brooklyn's low-income neighborhoods.
Ages: Families with children ten and older are welcome to volunteer

Passover Package Delivery
DOROT
Date/Time: Sunday, March 18, between 10am and 2pm
Location: Westside and Eastside Manhattan locations, as well as Westchester
Brighten the day of a senior! Celebrate the Jewish holiday of Passover by delivering a package of Passover food to our elderly neighbors and sharing a wonderful gift - the gift of friendship.
Ages: Families with children ages 4-12 years are welcome to participate
Time Commitment: One hour

Pack Easter Blessing Bags in Queens
HOPE for New York
Date/Time: Saturday, March 24, 9am - 4:30pm. Four shifts are available:
- 9 - 10:30am
- 11am -12:30pm
- 1 - 2:30pm
- 3 - 4:30pm
Location: CRU Inner City Training and Distribution Center, 9 - 11 44th Drive, Queens
Each year, Cru Inner City packs thousands of Easter "Blessing Bags" to serve children in need throughout NYC. Volunteers will fill paper bags with Easter treats, crayons, Bible stories, as well as a gospel bead bracelet to share the message of Easter.
Ages: All ages can participate
Time Commitment: One and one-half hours

Summer Teen Internship Program
DOROT
Date/Time: The internship is 4 days a week, Mondays-Thursdays, 10:30am - 5pm. On the last day of the internship, the day ends at 6:30pm.
- Session 1: June 25 - July 19 (exceptions made for Regents exams)
- Session 2: July 23 - August 16
Location: Two locations are available
--- Manhattan and Riverdale
Do you have a teen looking for a summer internship program? This internship inspires high school students to develop leadership skills and give back to the community. Interns volunteer with a diverse group of socially-conscious teens to connect with older adults and provide assistance. Teen Interns may:
- Visit seniors in their home for companionship
- Teach seniors how to use a computer, iPad, iShuffle, and other types of technology
- Celebrate seniors' birthdays
- Deliver meals to seniors
- Send birthday cards out to seniors
- Read to visually impaired seniors
- Shop and deliver groceries to seniors
- Play chess, cards, scrabble, and other games with seniors
- Assist with office work at DOROT
- Have the opportunity to plan, run and implement an intergenerational game day or museum trip
- Visit DOROT's Homelessness Prevention Program and take part in cooking a meal for the seniors who live in our transitional housing facility
Ages: DOROT's Summer Teen Internship Program is for rising sophomores through rising seniors.
Time Commitment: The internship is unpaid and designed to provide students with a minimum of 92 hours of community service.

Annual Book Drive
Project Cicero
Date/Time: Sorting and distribution event is March 8 - 11, from 10 am - 6 pm. Book donations will also be accepted at the event. Most New York City independent schools are doing book collections, and if you have an independent school in your neighborhood, you should check with them. Donation drives end on March 6.
Location: The sorting and distribution event will take place in the Gold Ballroom at The Hotel Pennsylvania, at the corner of 33rd & 7th Ave. There is a side door entrance on 33rd. Book drive donations should be delivered to: Project Cicero, 53 East 79th Street. Books can also be donated to Project Cicero through their
Amazon wishlist page.
Project Cicero is a partnership of independent, public, and parochial schools, private and public organizations, and corporations whose primary goal is to create and supplement classroom and school libraries for children in under-resourced New York City public schools through an annual citywide book drive. Project Cicero also puts books into homeless shelters, juvenile detention facilities, community centers, before and after school programs, and wherever else there is a need. To date, Project Cicero has placed 3,250,000 new and gently used books into more than 20,000 classrooms and school libraries reaching over 700,000 children in under-resourced schools in New York City.
Donated books must be in excellent condition, and only children's book (through Young Adult/high school level) will be accepted. Please consult the

Ages: Sorting and distribution volunteers must be in 6th grade or older. If you are bringing 6th-8th graders, we ask for one adult per 12 kids. Everyone can participate in book drives.

Become a Senior Angel
Doing Good Together
Date/Time: Once a week
Location: A senior in your community
You can help create a more age-integrated society and instill positive attitudes toward aging by providing your child with positive contacts with seniors. By becoming a Senior Angel your family will let a senior know they are remembered and loved through an ongoing weekly correspondence. Seniors who may be home-bound, confined to nursing homes, or in convalescent hospitals will look forward to your weekly greetings! You can reach out to a relative, neighbor or senior you know in your community
.
What you'll need:
- Stationery, greeting cards, pens, drawing or art supplies
- Occasional small, inexpensive, gifts ($2-$5), such as a box of tea or bar of scented soap
- Postage
Ages: Your whole family can participate!
Time Commitment: Varies, but please plan on making an ongoing, long-term commitment to your senior.
