Attention Members, Parents, Health Professionals and Educators

ACPeds Member Dr. Thomas Lickona would like to draw to your attention the opportunity for US schools to participate in the Narnian Virtues character education project free of charge. The curriculum offers flexibility in terms of tasks, but is built around 12 extracts from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

All the electronic materials will be provided to schools for free in exchange for pupils completing a pre and post-test so we can measure what impact engaging with characters from C.S. Lewis's Narnia has had on their virtue literacy and dispositions.

The curriculum seeks to promote the virtues of wisdom, love, justice, self-control, fortitude and integrity as pupils study the characters in Narnia.  The programme involves home activities to be completed with families, and parents have found the curriculum to be a valuable resource for enabling them to support their child's character development.

If you would like to discuss this opportunity further we would be delighted to take up the
conversation with you either over the phone or through a visit to your school. Please contact us at [email protected] or visit our website, www.narnianvirtues.leeds.ac.uk, for more information.

Extending a warm welcome to Dr. Marie Leiner,  one of our newest members

Dr. Marie Leiner has produced many wonderful character education videos and books for young children. She has received more than 30 national and international awards for her cartoon productions, which have been translated from English into Portuguese and Spanish.

Featured on YouTube, these videos are specifically designed to solve social problems and protect mental health in children by promoting good behavior. The  English /  Spanish channels boast ~130 million visits and ~228,000 subscribers.

In addition to producing character education videos, Dr. Leiner has written books about the impact of violence among children, and researches Binational USA/Mexico studies regarding the effect of collective violence and poverty.

She has years of experience as a health communicator and  has successfully implemented innovative techniques to produce and test health educational material using illustrations in different formats to change perceptions and attitudes of patients/parents toward health prevention and social/behavioral issues.

We all have families in our practice and in our lives who will benefit from these resources, so spread the word!

ACPeds and others reject forced participation in the elective abortion

The World Medical Association (WMA) is poised to eliminate health professionals' right to conscientious objection to elective abortions

As a result, ACPeds co-authored a letter with the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG), the Christian Medical & Dental Association (CMDA) and the Catholic Medical Association (CMA) lobbying the American Medical Association (AMA), which is a member of the WMA, to do all it can to preserve conscience rights at the World Medical Association's international meeting.
