2018
Next Meeting

Thurs., March 8, 2018
Murphey Gallery
St. Philip’s Church
Campbell Ave. at River Rd.

Meeting at 10 AM
Program at 11 AM

Program

Jane Herrick will speak at 11 am on March 8.

Jane’s mixed media, fiber sculpture, paintings and drawings reflect the emotions she feels in her two homes: The south shore of Lake Superior, with its magical water, dense forests and lush vegetation, and Tucson and its arid desert and rugged mountains, mixed with native cultures.

Whether it’s found objects in the natural environment or man-made materials , my goal is to allow the piece to develop, given the characteristics of the materials and the influences from my environment. I must give up total control of any former or preconceived ideas, old habits, or new successes. Only then do the materials, the techniques, the form, and the ideas from my surroundings take charge and become what they will to create unusual mixed media collages, introspective fiber structures or thought provoking paintings and drawings.

Up next - April 12: Sean-Paul Pluguez

Sean-Paul Pluguez is both a Tucson and New York City based artist exploring varied media to express his inner vision. He is best known locally for his dazzling installation "The Genetically Modified Forest" at the Louis Carlos Bernal Gallery at Pima College last Spring. He says "his art is an object, an experience and an exercise in seeing." He believes art can inform. His primary goal is to have the world see his art, yet equally important for him is for the viewers to be awakened to really see the world in front of them.

Note: PaperWorks strives to make the most of our monthly meetings by limiting our announcements during the business portion, thus giving time for members during the break to visit our tables and gather information, sign up for classes, and re-connect with others.  If you have an announcement, you are encouraged to send it to enews [email protected] by the 25th of the month.
From September through May, PaperWorks meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at St. Philips in the Hills Church, East Murphey Gallery. PaperWorks meetings are open to members, guests and the public at no charge. Summer meeting times and locations vary. Directions to St. Philips and updates at www.paperworks.info
Bobbie's News

Already it’s that time of year when we start planning for next year!  This month's board agenda includes discussions of future projects, exhibits, workshops, classes, collaborations and programs.

With that in mind, we are always looking for feedback, ideas, teachers, and most of all, members who will turn these ideas into reality!  Currently we are searching for members who could run: 1)PaperPlay classes or 2)Workshops for next year (2018-19). Also a co-chair to help with Exhibits. The only way we can keep this vibrant arts organization running is through volunteers, so will you (or together with a friend) consider doing your part? Written “job” descriptions available. We’re also looking for suggestions for our 2018-2019 community outreach project, when our assistance to Sister Jose Women’s Center comes to a close. Let’s talk at the next meeting, or email me at [email protected] . Thank you!

Field Trip to University of Arizona Museum of Art

Visiting artist Louise Levergneux met with two of our board members recently and then posted a very complimentary description of PaperWorks at http://louiselevergneux.com/half-measure-studio/  Thanks to VP Linda Penny and Treasurer Cherrie Lucerne-Martin for spending time with Louise.

Hope to see you Friday night, March 2 at Tohono Chul, for the free reception, including PW member Janet Windsor's fiber art.
