Monday was the first day of spring, and with that we understand how we have a chance to begin again. This always takes place during Lent, so it is an equally good time to reengage in our relationship with Jesus Christ. In just a few weeks, all of this snow will be gone and we will be mowing our lawns and looking for a cool day in the shade. Even with the snow storms, our annual Open House for prospective students was a great success. It is evident from what we hear, that people are pleased with the direction of our school. We still have a lot to do, but please be assured that we will continue to move forward.
We have already received a large number of re-enrollment and new enrollment forms, but we need to have a definitive count for our budget. We are also on a time constraint for financial aid. This past year, between the Annual Fund, the Chrisanne Burns Scholarship, and Team ExCEL, we were able to give out more than $100,000.00 in financial aid, and we were able to meet 100% of the recommended needs for every family who applied for aid within the required time frame. As we continue to grow as a school, so will the financial need of our students. If you can offer any assistance to any of these funds, we ask that you please do so. The students of St. Michael School and those who attend Faith Formation classes are the future of the Catholic Church. With all of the distractions these children see, it is important that we continue to offer a rock-solid foundation in religious training, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. With that in mind, if you need financial assistance, please do not hesitate in applying for aid through FACTS. But please do so as soon as possible.  I meet with Fr. Frank in mid-April to go over the applications, and make sure that we are meeting the needs for all of our students and their families.  Our budget is based on enrollment, so it is imperative that you return your re-enrollment forms by the deadline of March 31st. It is required that we submit a balanced budget to the finance committee.
A final thought on our STREAM Projects. They were fantastic! In fact, I shared a couple of them with the other principals in New England just to show them what our students can do when we give them the opportunity to be creative. To aid in this course work, next year we will be adding research methods to our middle school curriculum. We are also in the process of adding a 3-D printer to our computer lab, which will further help the students in all grades with STREAM projects. This spring it is my hope that we will be purchasing additional tablets for our lower grades. It is important that our youngest learners become familiar with technology, and learn to respect it.
I conclude with this quote from Desiderata; "Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune". This applies to all of us.  In my family; my father, my mother and my mother-in-law have all had recent health emergencies. It is stressful worrying about things we have no control of, so I surrender to God. He does not burden us with things we can't handle, even though sometimes we don't think we can. I continue to feel blessed that these children are here at St. Michael School, and that you entrust them to us. It cannot go without saying how lucky and thankful we are to have families and parishioners who are so supportive
 of what we are doing.

I ask for God's blessings for all of us.

8th Grade Students to Present Living Stations of the Cross
The Stations of the Cross are a 14-step Catholic devotion that commemorates Jesus Christ's last day on Earth as a man. The 14 devotions, or stations, focus on specific events of His last day, beginning with His condemnation. At each station, individuals meditate on the specific event. Our Living Stations of the Cross is a passion play presented by the by the 24 students in 8th grade. It is a narration, along with music and acting. Above all, it is a prayer. Our students will present the Living Stations of the Cross for the school on Tuesday, April 11, at 1:15 pm at St. Mary Church then again at 7 pm. Please join us at either one for this truly moving experience !
