Join us on Sunday to celebrate our risen Lord!
First Church News & Updates - March 30, 2018

Good Friday

Today is Good Friday, the day  Jesus was crucified. This evening, our students will be leading the congregation in our Good Friday service. This will be a contemplative worship service that will combine drama, reading, music, and Holy Communion.  In the season of Advent, we light candles as we anticipate the coming of our Savior. In this reverse Advent service we will extinguish candles as we prepare our hearts and minds for His ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Childcare will be available in Bldg. 2-B.

Celebrate Easter at First Church!
Easter Sunday
  • 9 and 11 am: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary
  • 9 and 11 am: Contemporary worship in the Family Life Center
In order to offer families the opportunity to worship together, there will be no Bible Buddies or Children's Sunday School on Easter Sunday. Childcare for 2 years and younger will be in Bldg. 2-C during all services. There will also be no Sunday School for youth and adults. The Twin Oaks Cafe will not be open on Easter Sunday. In order to improve traffic flow, we will have two buses running shuttle service from the Texas Baptist Children's Home, 1101 North Mays, beginning at 8 am.
  • Sermon: "I Have Seen the Lord!"
  • Scripture:  John 20:1-18
Dr. Will Cotton  will preach at all 4 worship services.

Flowering Cross
Help bring our flowering cross to full bloom!
Everyone is invited to bring fresh, cut flowers on Easter morning to create our flowering cross. The cross will be prominently placed outside the church so that flowers can be placed on the mesh frame, as a sign and witness to the joy and beauty of our Easter proclamation, Christ Is Risen!

Easter Sunday is an amazing celebratory time at First Church. We encourage you to invite your family and friends to join you in worship.

Alleluia. Christ is risen!
Introducing Rev. Dr. Col. Pat McCain
An announcement from Jamie Fickey, Chair of the Staff Parish Relations Committee...

Rev. Dr. Col. Pat McCain

The associate pastor to join our staff on September 1  is the Rev. Dr. Col. Steven Patrick McCain, better known as Pat. Ordained a United Methodist elder in 1985, he and his wife, Monica, will be moving here from Pearl Harbor-Hickam AFB, in Hawaii, where he has been serving as Command Chaplain for the Pacific Air Forces. He has deployed five times during his career, including two deployments with Special Operations forces. Prior to serving in the Air Force, Pat served as
Pat and Monica McCain
a pastor for eight years in churches in Oklahoma and Texas. He is known for his work in leadership development, preaching and hands on mission.

Why does someone want to leave Hawaii and move to Round Rock? Grandchildren, of course!
Pat and Monica are pleased to be coming our way, where they will be close to their children and grandchildren in Austin and San Antonio. On behalf of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, we are excited to have Pat at First UMC and believe that alongside Will and David Johnson, we will be served with an outstanding pastoral team.

Registration is open for children of volunteers
If you have already volunteered and registered for Shipwrecked VBS in June 2018, thank you!  If you are able to volunteer this summer but have not registered, please register today. In addition to being a fun week in the summer, VBS is a mission!  We want to open it to children in our church and community, whose parents may not have the flexibility in their schedule to volunteer. As soon as we have a minmum number of adult volunteers, we can offer all children an opportunity to register.  Can you help make this goal a reality? Click here for more information and to volunteer!

Book Study
New Sunday school study begins April 8
Half Truths...God Helps Those Who Help Themselves and Other Things the Bible Doesn't Say , by Adam Hamilton.  Everything happens for a reason. God helps those who help themselves. God won't give you more than you can handle. All true? Not so fast! These statements capture some element of truth, yet miss the point in important ways. In  this study , we will compare common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus. Join us on   Sundays, 9:40 am, Bldg. 5- 136. Contact Debby Utley,  debbyfaeu@gmail.com for information.  All are welcome.
