Rethink 65/70 Coalition - Rebuild It Right

The Rethink 65/70 Coalition is comprised of Indianapolis neighborhoods, businesses, organizations and citizens coalesced around a unique once in a lifetime opportunity to leverage a planned interstate reconstruction project towards elevating the Capital City to the ranks of Great American Cities. Their vision aligns with INDOT's plan to tear down the 50-year-old Interstate 65/70 Inner Loop. But they differ with INDOT on how this facility should be rebuilt to best serve the region for the next 50 years. The Rethink 65/70 Coalition believes it unwise to rebuild and expand the interstate in the current raised configuration, further separating downtown from its neighborhoods, impeding connectivity, stymying economic growth, and compounding the historic and still-present negative impacts that this highway has on the city and the region. Their vision is to replace the proposed design with an alternative that enables community connectivity for all transportation modes, unleashing new economic development potential and healing the spatial and social divide between downtown and its nearside neighborhoods caused by construction of the original interstate.
