Can you believe Spring Break is right around the corner?  Warmer weather awaits and we sure have experienced a teaser or two this past week.  Though it feels like it is time to break out the summer wear; please continue guiding your child to dress appropriately for changing temperatures, i.e. layer up.  Sometimes we see a ten degree variance with in one hour and morning outside time temperatures are  consistently hovering below 30 degrees.

Amy, Canyon Room Lead Teacher was married and honeymooned last week.  If you get a moment please offer your well wishes.  Congratulations Amy and Ian. 
 
Returning preschool student registration got underway last week; if your child is a returning preschool student this fall (16-17) and you have not received a registration form please see Lexi or Yvonne in the office. You may have noticed full day program is no longer available for preschool friends; this past November the Colorado Legislature passed new licensing laws-one of which changed the requirements for napping or rest periods including space, equipment and equipment storage requirements . Our facility currently does not have adequate space to provide nap; logistically it is also unfeasible for us to provide all school nap during the day due to high enrollment, program demand and the guarantee of an uninterrupted work cycle.  I sincerely apologize for this convenience.  I am filing an appeal with the State however, it is my understanding a waiver is unlikely to be granted.

New student registration begins next Monday and will continue until available slots have been filled. Please consider referring a friend, colleague or community member to our school! 

Enrollment packets (the multi-page form) will not be available until the beginning of the school year, as all forms need to be dated and signed within thirty days of our first day of school. The exception will be the Health Status Form which will be available for pick up anytime; the office will notify you if your child's Health Status Form expires during the summer months.

The next two months are going to be super busy.  Staff are gearing up for our Colorado Shines Evaluation in April, working hard on our Language program and of guiding your children through the classroom.  Soon, Kindergarten friends will begin visiting the Lower Elementary classrooms.  Keep an eye on your email inbox and parent folder for announcements in the coming weeks. 

Lastly, please check out the Board of Directors section of this newsletter.  Children's House Annual Appeal is in full swing.  A link to our fundraising site is included; I encourage to go ahead and click on the link not only to learn more about our program but to gain insight on how our non-profit school works to ensure accessibility to our communities youngest members. We depend on donations from folks just like you and welcome donations in any increment. Remember even the greatest architectural feats were built one brick or stone at a time.

PTO Press.....
Please join us on Tuesday, (March 8th) from 5:30pm to 6:30pm for this month's PTO Meeting at Children's House Campus.  Light snacks and Free Childcare will be provided.   At this meeting we will hear updates from CH and EMS Administration, and discuss PTO fundraising and volunteer opportunities.  If you can't be at the meeting feel free to contact us at  kivapto@gmail.com, or catch up with any of the PTO officers, Angie Seeley, Stacey Weyand and Holley Christensen.   We are excited the PTO can be one avenue for your voice to be heard.

Greetings from your Children's House Board of Directors!  

Your Children's House Board of Directors is currently working on the Children's House Annual Appeal Campaign.  Did you know that the vast majority of students at our school receive tuition subsidies, and this assistance is available in part due to individual donations?? Even paying for a full day tuition does not meet the costs per pupil to run our program.  However, we strive to be a school for every child, ensuring ethnic and socio-economic diversity within our school community.  If you believe it is important to have this school of choice in our area, we encourage you to visit and share this link with any friends or family whom you think could contribute financially to our school - from $10 to $100 - any amount is appreciated!  Thank you so much!


This season the Board is looking for new members, as we do each spring (it's almost spring, right?).  We currently have 7 board members, and can have up to 9.  If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the board and possibly applying for a spot, please contact Shamai Buckel at shamai.buckel@gmail.com. We welcome both parents and community members to be a part of our board. Also, please remember that our meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to come sit in on a meeting and see how it all works.  Our next meeting is March 21, 5pm, at the E/M S building on Beech Street. We'd love to see you there!

I am available in the office Monday through Friday, 8am-3:30pm except during school closure, via email at alexia@childrenskiva.org, or at 970-565-8586 during office hours. I attend frequent meetings during the week so if I miss you, please leave me a message, I will get back to you. When I am out of the office, Yvonne will be onsite to assist you.  


 

FYI-I will be out of the office Wednesday March 9th for the regional CPP Meeting in Durango, and Thursday March 11th through Monday March 14th for planned family trip.  Please send correspondence via email during this time.
