March is here so that means a new month with new opportunities for our Bearcats to reconnect with classmates and the College.
Spring is around the corner and several of our Bearcat athletic teams are heading to Florida for some spring training. We've planned two events designed to bring alumni and current students together. Visit the athletic web page for game schedules during spring training.
Sunday, March 1, finds us cheering on our men's baseball team in Lakeland, Florida for spring training, and later that evening, joining our men's baseball team and Head Coach Mick Janosko at Champs Sports Grill for an alumni social from 5 - 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, March 3, we will be in the Clermont, Florida area, alumni and friends will be joined by our women's softball team, women's lacrosse team and women's tennis team at Gator's Dockside from 7 - 9 p.m. Our regular monthly lunches are held on the second Friday (on campus) and third Tuesday (at Giannilli's II in Greensburg, Pennsylvania). Both lunches provide us the opportunity to connect with alumni as well as to have great food. To register, contact the Alumni Office at 724-805-2568. Also in March, we bring things back to Pennsylvania by having an alumni happy hour in Pittsburgh at The Pittsburgh Grille on Thursday, March 12, from 5 - 7 p.m.
Saint Vincent College President Brother Norman Hipps and I will be in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, March 18, for our annual Harrisburg Area Alumni Presidential Reception. This event will be held from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at The Central Hotel and Conference Center.
We wrap things up at the end of the month with Corks and Canvases, a special event for our Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD), in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, March 22, from 2 - 4 p.m. Please visit our FaceBook Page for event details and registration instructions. I hope to see you at one or more of these events this month.
If you have any questions about these or any other alumni happenings, please let me know.
Go Bearcats!

Blessing of the Throats
St. Blaise has nothing in his history about fiery blazes but don't tell that to generations of students at Saint Vincent College . There, the Feast of St. Blaise has been an opportunity for hundreds to enjoy a giant bonfire fueled with discarded Christmas trees - after getting their throats blessed by the Benedictine monk-priests from the campus ministry team.

Alumni Spotlight
|
Last summer, the Alumni Office reached out asking Bearcats to "Share Your Story." Nearly 250 Saint Vincent stories were submitted.
Gina R. (Rocco) Lawry, C'97
I love Saint Vincent! I had the best experience there during my college years and use what I learned every day. I loved my professors and the faith community atmosphere. It is truly a family there and I am still involved through the Alumni Council and still consider SVC family. I was a finance major and also attained a graduate certificate in Operational Excellence. I went on to receive an MBA at Point Park University and was very well prepared to further my education, thanks to SVC. I can't say enough about the wonderful experience I had at SVC and hope that my 2-year-old daughter, Sophia, becomes a future Bearcat!

Grandparents University!
Hosted by the Office of Service Learning and Community Outreach and the Alumni Office, the first annual Grandparent University (GPU) at Saint Vincent College is about to begin registration!
Grandparents who stress the importance of education to their grandchildren can now back up those words with actions. Grandparent University is a unique intergenerational learning experience designed to actively engage our youth and their grandparents while giving them the chance to live and learn together.
Registration will begin April 1! All spots are first-come, first-served and are expected to fill quickly! You will be able to visit the Saint Vincent College main webpage for a link for registration or call the Office of Service Learning and Community Outreach.
While on campus, participants attend classes taught by SVC faculty, stay in student housing, dine on campus and enjoy the life of average college students. Under the instruction of SVC professors, the students learn about their chosen major and participate in a variety of activities.
Upon completing their assignments, our GPU participants will receive a graduation certificate for all of their hard work as college students during their stay at Saint Vincent College. Along with the activities in the classroom, there is time to socialize at the Bearcat Picnic on the field, swim at the Frank and Elizabeth Resnik Pool or tour the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve.
Any questions can be directed to: Jessica Adams at 724-805-2288 or read more here.
