March 21, 2012

Greetings!

We are pleased to announce the fifth (5th) session of our Community Conversations on Race Monday, March 26, 2012, 6:30pm at the Rudisill Library.  The title of this session is "Arrested Development:  The overrepresentation of youth of color in the Juvenile Justice System."  Tulsa County's Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC) Reduction Initiative seeks to reduce the overrepresentation of minority youth within the juvenile justice system.  In this session we will learn more about Tulsa's efforts to reduce the overrepresentation of young people of color in the juvenile justice system and what we, as concerned citizens, can do to help.

The purpose

of the Community Conversations on Race is designed to:

Explore multicultural experiences of Tulsans by expanding our knowledge and awareness of race and racism; and ultimately to develop skills and competencies to communicate more affectively across cultural difference.

The goals are to provide participants with an opportunity to:

  • Realize the interconnectedness of our communities
  • Understand and appreciate that we all have different lived experiences with regard to race
  • Examine ones own positive and negative biases towards difference
  • Experience cultural realities through mini-lectures, storytelling, games/simulations, video and written resources
Click here for the flyer for the March 26th program "Arrested Development" with Twan Jones, representative of the DMC initiative.  Please forward the flyer to everyone you think will be interested in the program and we hope you will attend.  RSVP to kelli@mtul.org

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
