Dear Parents,
I have recently received emails from parents
thanking myself and the faculty for the safe, kind, and positive school environment we create each and every day. In addition, they stated that it gives them immeasurable peace of mind to know that each day their child is safe and secure. I have also received emails asking about the security measures that are in place at the school. I am currently working with Thomas Dillon a school security consultant. He has been assisting me in implementing a thorough school safety plan. Mr. Dillon observed a recent school lockdown drill and provided me recommendations for improvement. He recommended that I purchase 2-way radios. These radios would be integral to our security plan.
I take the safety of each of your children very seriously. In light of last week’s tragedy in Florida, I want to order this equipment immediately. I need your assistance in purchasing them. The cost of the radios is $4,557. I am planning a
dress down day this Thursday, March 1
st
.
I am not assigning a dollar amount for the dress down as many parents have recently asserted that they are willing to help defray the cost of any security equipment designed to keep their children safe. I would, however, be most appreciative of a $10 minimum donation per child. All donations will be used to purchase this necessary equipment. I thank you in advance for your generosity. I pray daily that God continues to keep our children safe.
Peace,
Mrs. Ann T. Sarpu

Lent is a season of turning to God in simplicity and sincerity as we prepare to celebrate the joy of Easter. The three traditional pillars of Lent are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The giving of alms can be traced back to before the time of Jesus. In the parable of the poor widow, Jesus uses the tradition of almsgiving to teach us about generosity. He says that it is the widow who gives the better share because she gives out of her daily living expenses, out of her poverty, while the rich simply from their surplus (Luke 21: 1-4). Works of charity and the promotion of justice are integral to the Christian way of life.
At Corpus Christ School, the students are actively involved in these practices. Our Lenten project this year is entitled “Toothbrushes & Toothpaste for Haiti”. The students learned last week how fortunate they are and how their almsgiving benefit other children in the world. Tom Campbell, a volunteer for Outreach to Haiti, shared personal stories with the students about life in Haiti and the lack of dental care in the country. We are asking each student to kindly donate toothbrushes and toothpaste. Our donations will then be brought to Haiti and distributed to Haitian families. I thank you in advance for your generosity.

Corpus Christi Middle School students artistically coded the Google Logo for Valentine's Day. Google CS First had a special activity for Valentine's Day, which allowed students to make a Google logo that celebrates what they care about. Google CS First are computer coding courses for children ages 9-14 to introduce computer science and the programming language Scratch. Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, and is utilized by most high schools and colleges. Corpus Christi School plans to introduce more students to the Google CS First Program.

Corpus Christi School HSA News
Dear Corpus Christi Families,
One of the main goals of the Corpus Christi Home School Association (CCHSA) is to raise money for the school’s operating costs, which has a direct impact on how much tuition costs are raised each year, if at all. The CCHSA also strives to build a strong school community and supports events that help build those relationships and bring us together as a community. The success of the CCHSA directly impacts each and every one of us, both financially and socially.
We have each had the opportunity to volunteer at different CCHSA events and have had truly positive and welcoming experiences. We are well aware of how busy life can get, and truly appreciate the time and generosity of those who lend a hand. Any amount of time – no matter how small – is most appreciated, but remember, you must attend Virtus training before you can volunteer at school events.
CCHSA Updates
SCRIP: The SCRIP fundraiser before Christmas was a big success, thank you to all of the families who purchased gift cards. The school raised over $3,000 from the sale of gift cards from October 30 – December 31, 2017.
Sadie Hawkins Dance: The Sadie Hawkins Dance was held on February 9, 2018. A big thank you to Sue Wagner for her generosity, both of her time and out-of-pocket donations, which has made this event such a success throughout the years. This year, the dance brought it over $2,900. This was Mrs. Wagner’s last year coordinating this event, as her daughter will be graduating from Corpus Christi in June. Beginning next year, the Sadie Hawkins dance will be coordinated by Lisa Torneo.
Mother-Son Night @ Nomads on March 9, 2018: If anyone is interested in assisting with this event, please contact Kristen Archibald and Lisa Torneo at the email addresses below.
Family Bingo @ CCS on April 20, 2018: If anyone would like help out with our first Family Bingo night, please contact Kim Robinson (
[email protected]
) and Veronica Andrea (
[email protected]
). Your help is greatly appreciated.
School Picnic @ CCS on June 15, 2018: This is a great event our families look forward to every year and a great opportunity to bring CCS families together. Gina Burby has done an excellent job coordinating this event in the past, however, just like Mrs. Wagner, this will be Mrs. Burby’s last year, as her child is also graduating in June. If you’ve ever attended the picnic, you know many volunteers are needed to make the evening a success. Please consider volunteering and contact Gina Burby (
[email protected]
) if you are interested.
The CCHSA also has plans CCS events at the Springfield Thunderbirds Game on March 10
th
, Chili’s Give Back Event on March 20
th
and the Hartford Yard Goats Game on May 4
th
. These are three fun family events that are planned, hope you can join us!
The next CCHSA meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 4 at 7PM in the CCS library. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
There will be no meeting in March.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.
Thank you,
