Welcome to the new Downshift Newsletter. This will be our monthly communications to the membership and other interested parties.  Please remember the Downshift and KYSCCA.com are the official communications of KYR and any social media posts are completely unofficial.

Important: Change in Fees for 2017
Due to an increase in insurance costs and weekend membership fees from the SCCA and an increase in our site rental fees the Board has voted to increase AutoX registration fees by $5. We will still be offering the $5 discount for attendees that pre-register and pre-pay using MotorSportsReg.  The new fee structure will be $40 for KYR members and $50 for non-members.  ($35/$45 with pre-pay discount)
  New Rule Changes for 2017
The Board has voted in a couple rule changes for the 2017 season.

Sound Limits:  
Given the the sound requirements of NCM and our desire to maintain the best possible relationship with track management the club has elected to enforce a lower sound limit.  The new rules will reduce the maximum allowable dB reading by 2dB.  Under the new rules you will be warned at 95 dB and asked to make a change to your car before you can run again at 98 dB.  If you refuse to make a change, or make a change and still break 98 dB your runs will be DSQ.  This allows us a small buffer room between the track imposed sound limits that will force the entire event to shut down and jeopardize future events at the site.  At our KFEC events we will running and recording sound for informational purposes only.  People who go over 95 dB and 98 dB will be notified so they are aware of their situation before attending an event at NCM.  

If you'd like to test your car before an event there are many smartphone noise meter applications available that are surprisingly accurate.  The CDC did a study showing that many are within +/- 2dB of tested sources to they can at least let you know if you are in the ball park.  For your reference, the measuring point will be 50 feet from the edge of the course using an ANSI Type 2 sound meter set to “A” weighting, “Slow” response. The microphone will be 3 to 4 feet above ground level, positioned perpendicular to vehicle direction of travel in an area where a car is expected to be under full throttle. 

PRO Class:
This year we will be offering a PRO Class at each event.  This class will count as one class for event points/trophies, and year end points and trophies.  The PRO class will be a combined PAX indexed class designed for competitors who would like more competition then they may get in their normal class.  Stay tuned for more information on this as we work out the details.  If you have raced with TN Region or Cincy Region it is the same model they use for their Pro Class.
Chief of Sound
The Region is looking for a volunteer to be the Chief of Sound for 2017.  The person will need to be someone who will be at all, or at least most, of the events.  This person is responsible for setting up the meter in a proper location, notifying competitors that go over the limits, and maintaining and posting the sound logs.  Training will be available to the volunteer, if you are interested please email kyscca.re@gmail.com 

Trailer Designer
We are soliciting for someone to come up with some cool ideas for our trailer.  If you like graphics or design we could use your help.  Please let us know via email or on Facebook if you'd like to contribute to the design and decoration of our new club trailer.

Worker Training Video
The club is looking to create a video to cover the basics of course and corner working.  This would speed up our drivers meeting and also give a consistent approach to what is conveyed to workers.  If you have the equipment, and the know how, we could use any help we can get in creating a short training video.  If interested please reach out to the club.
