An ARM Update
March 2013

Dear friends,

Thank you for your continued faithfulness and support of Africa Renewal Ministries.  Last month, we shared with you a story of one of our church partners. This month, we would like to share a story of one of our sponsors, who has had her life changed through Africa Renewal Ministries.
These stories are from people just like you and me.  They are people, who are committed to raising leaders both from home, and through short term missions opportunities here in Uganda.

These visitors have greatly blessed us, and God has truly blessed them in return for their faithfulness.  They continue to have a lasting impression on the hearts of all who they have touched and we hope to see them again as we continue to work together for the glory of God!

Be blessed,

Pastor Peter

One Big Happy Family PARKstory
by: Yvonne Roe from First Presbyterian Church, Houston, TX

"I can't think of anything more wonderful than having a big family.  My family grew when I met Mark Kalyowa and Africa Renewal Ministries. I saw the face of this six year old boy in a photo and fell in love.  I had to go meet him in person.  The moment I set foot in Uganda, I felt like I was at home.  Going down the road to his village, my heart was racing with excitement.  I was privileged to meet his father, grandmother, cousins and school friends.  We ate together, laughed, sang and danced.  I got to put my arms around him and I saw how sponsoring a child had a positive effect on his life.

We have taken many trips to visit ARM since then, and each time my eyes are opened wider, my love & appreciation grow deeper and my family grows larger.  We get to see God's hand at work when we hold the babies waiting to be adopted, when we play and worship with the toddlers in the Early Childhood Centre and when we teach the children in the schools new Bible songs and lessons. I believe this is what our Lord asks of us when He says it is His will that we love one another.

I have added a son since then, Edgar Saaku, who is already a servant leader in Namutamba, and will graduate from University in a year.

Edgar & Mark call me "Mum" and I wear that name with great joy!  God willing, I will return again and again!"

From Edgar Ssaku:

"Two years ago, I met Yvonne Roe who had come to Namutamba with the First Presbyterian team from Houston Texas.  I did not know who she was but when she heard my name, she approached me.  I was surprised to find out that she knew a lot about me, and was interested in the children's ministry I was doing at our church.

Since then, Yvonne has become like a mother to me.  She has helped me go to University, gives me good counsel, inspires me, challenges me in my bible learning, and much more.  She has continuously surprised me, by supplying me with items I need for university.  I am grateful to God because both my sisters and I are studying now, and our future's are bright.

My future plan is to identify people in my community who have special gifts and talents, and help them to use their gifts for God's service."
Edgar Ssaku is currently studying Mass Communications at Mutesa Royal University.  He is set to graduate next year, and plans on using his degree to help spread the gospel through media.
