NY State Budget Testimony

In February, NYSEDC Executive Director Brian McMahon and Immediate Past Chair Michael Stamm testified at the Legislative budget hearing on Economic Development. NYSEDC's written testimony covered several issues, including:
  • Opposition to the Executive Budget's proposal to require two state-level approvals by ESD and the Public Authority Control Board for IDA projects financed with private activity bonds.
  • Support for the Executive's $100 million downtown revitalization, but proposing instead of a 10 winner competition to recapitalize the RESTORE NY Communities Initiative for $100 million.
  • Support for funding the Workforce Development Institute (WDI) for a minimum of $3 million.
  • Support to allow assessed value of IDA projects to be included in calculation to determine the Tax Levy Growth Factor for purposes of the 2 percent real property tax cap.

Ithaca Beer Co. Taproom Voted 5th Best Brewpub Nationally
Top Honors in USA Today's 2016 Readers Choice Poll

The Ithaca Beer Co. Taproom was chosen as America's 5th best brewpub in a reader's choice poll conducted by USA Today's Travel Media Group. The poll featured breweries identified for their excellence in serving great beer as well as great food in their restaurant.

USA Today wrote: "Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes region, Ithaca Beer Co. has solidified its standing as one of New York State's most beloved breweries thanks to its innovative, flavorful beers. Not to be outdone, the taproom delights visitors with its family-friendly vibe and farm-to-table culinary approach. The menu proudly lists the contributions of a plethora of local purveyors. Popular offerings include a "vegan brew" burger (made with mushroom, tempeh, and brewer's grain) and New York cheddar soup made with the brewery's "Green Trail" pale ale".  For full poll results, go to  www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-brewpub/
