A LETTER FROM OUR COUNSELORS:

Dear Saint Thomas More Parents,

In past years our wonderful librarian, Ms. Tschunko, worked with K-8 grade students to create "The Rainbow Wall of Kindness".  Every year it was displayed on the wall just outside the library.  This year we will continue Ms. Tschunko's  tradition, with a different twist.  K-8 grade students will create a "Kindness Tree"  with hearts as the leaves, each heart illustrating an act, phrase, or quote about kindness.

Our Kindness Tree activity is done in an effort to bring about awareness of how kind acts help  promote compassion, love, and unity with our peers,  families, communities, environment and the world.  Promoting acts of kindness can help reduce incidences of bullying by fostering positive actions that become the norm and are expected.   Performing kind acts even increase the level of serotonin in our brains, increasing our happiness and lowering depression and anxiety.

This week and last,  students created their hearts if kindness.  On Monday, March 27 all students with have the chance to hang their hearts on the kindness tree located at the landing on the way to middle school.   We hope you will have the chance to visit our Kindness Tree!

Thank you!    Susan Livingston and Chi Fomafung
