The BCC office is alive and buzzing with preparations for the 30th Annual Thurston County Bicycle Commuter Challenge!  We also had tons of fun with the Winter Mini-BCC this year- see the wrap-up below.

Help Kids Learn To Ride a Bike: Volunteer Opportunities Abound!
Volunteers are needed for two programs teaching bike skills to kids:
The Bikes in PE Program at Tumwater and North Thurston school districts teaches Bike and Pedestrian Skills in PE classes. Intercity Transit's Earn a Bike program teaches basic bike maintenance and safe riding skills. Teaching students how to get around safely means that kids are learning life-long skills that will not only help keep them safe but will also help keep them healthy, active, and excited about different transportation options.

Both of these programs rely on volunteers to make the classes run smoothly. The Earn a Bike program is also recruiting now for an 8-week paid internship position.

If you are interested (or know someone who would be) in volunteering or applying for the internship position , please contact Jessica Gould at [email protected] or 360.705.5855
Winter Mini-BC Wrap-up
Biking home, Feb 5.
The Winter Mini-BCC is growing! Maybe next year, we'll drop the "Mini" from its name. This year, 225 people signed up and biked for transportation in February. We biked through every kind of winter weather, with average temperatures between 9 and 10 degrees below normal, and over an inch above normal rainfall. We had 8 prize winners in our random prize drawings and our photo challenge- check out their photos (and some of the prizes) on our Facebook page! We had tons of fun on International Bike to Work Day, snapping photos and biking in the cold and rain (and seeing photos from parts of the world that have a real winter- people biking through blizzards and ice makes our winter look practically tropical!). Thanks to everyone who participated, and to our prize donors!
Spring is Coming, Spring is Coming!
Looking forward!
After biking through this extra-chilly, wet winter I'm really looking forward to the longer, warmer days of spring. The days are lengthening swiftly, hopefully the warmth will follow soon! I'm also getting excited for all our events coming up in April and May, and about seeing more of you out on your bikes. Yay for spring and I hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Duncan
