MARCH NEWS
March / 5 / 2018
Dear Forest Hills Family and Friends,

As you are all aware by now, Forest Hills has revealed our  new approach to LIFE! Our commitment to serving our residents and assuring the highest quality of life can now be seen in our new .life websites and email addresses; please remember to update your bookmarks and address books with our new information. All urls and emails are the same, just replace .org with .life -- it's that easy!

After much thoughtful progress, Forest Hills' kitchen renovations are now complete and we are excited to announce the official re-opening. Thank you all for your patience as we continue to improve the living environments at Forest Hills. Next up: a renovation of the elevator located off the main entrance doorway, leading up to the 2nd floor of Assisted Living. Stay tuned for more updates.

You may remember from last month the introduction of our Wellness Program. This new exercise program is designed by a physical therapist and tailored to each resident; it includes cardio, strengthening and balance exercises. We are excited to offer this program in an effort to assist our residents in remaining active and healthy. After their therapy is complete, a resident can come down to the gym as often as they like and workout on their own.

Effective March 8, now offer another laundry service option for assisted living residents. In addition to residents leaving items for laundry in the laundry rooms, you may also elect to have laundry picked up from your apartment. Housekeeping will provide laundry bags to all assisted living residents and we ask that laundry items are placed in these bags and left outside your apartment door. There will be only one pick up on the designated days: at 8am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. We are pleased to offer this complimentary service. If you have further questions please contact Charlene Perry, Housekeeping Supervisor, at 202-777-3316 or Housekeeping@foresthillsdc.life

Finally, I am pleased to announce a successful Department of Health Assisted Living survey of Forest Hills of DC! Our standard of care is apparent in all that we do, and it is always nice to be formally recognized for our efforts.

Sending my warm regards,

Mary Savoy, RN, MS, LNHA

Medicare Part B "HARD CAP" is Repealed!
Good news for therapy services

Due to the recent passing of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, residents of Forest Hills and Forest Side receiving therapy services under their Medicare Part B are now NOT subject to a limit of benefits as defined by a dollar amount of annual expenditures.

If you have any questions on the continuation of therapy services, please contact Lindsey Adler, Director of Rehabilitation, at foresthillsdc@careventures.net or call 202-777-4430.

Spotlight on CUA Nursing Students
Reflections from Community Health training

For the past five years, in our enduring commitment to develop the healthcare workforce, Forest Hills has welcomed nursing students from the Catholic University of America. Students are exposed to all facets of our services, and the benefits they gain are evident in the reflections they submit. Over the next few newsletters, we will share with you excerpts from those reflections, with permission from the students:

"I was able to sit down and talk to some of the residents in Assisted Living once they finished up their lunch. When I asked one resident how her lunch was, she responded, "I didn't have to cook it, and I don't have to clean the dishes. What's better than that?" Her positivity really stuck out to me...The vast majority of [residents] I have had the time to talk to seem truly happy and thankful for what they have and are given at Forest Hills. Obviously Forest Hills is doing something right! "
