News from Thanks-Giving Square and The Thanks-Giving Foundation  |   March 2017

What is prayer? How does it work? How does it change one's life? These are questions that organizers at The Thanks-Giving Foundation are asking as preparations continue for the 36th annual National Day of Prayer Luncheon in May. During the first weekend of March, people of diverse faith traditions gathered in the Chapel of Thanksgiving to record statements about their own perspectives on prayer. In the interview-style setting, some shared stories about family traditions, while others talked about prayer practices specific to their faith. Throughout the discussion ran common themes, revealing a connection between so many unique and diverse groups of people.

Relating to the core value expressed during the National Day of Prayer, these statements will be combined into a montage video and shown during the luncheon on May 4, 2017. We hope that you will consider how prayer plays a role in your daily life, and join us for this special annual event.

40 Chairs for
40 Years

Thanks-Giving Square is celebrating 40 years as a gathering place in the heart of downtown Dallas! To honor this milestone, 40 colorful chairs and 14 tables will be placed in the garden for visitors to use every day of the year. The first chairs will make an appearance in May 2017.

You can support this effort by donating a chair and engraving your personalized message on a patron charm. Recognize a loved one, memorialize a particular event, or commemorate your relationship with Thanks-Giving Square. Your heartfelt gift is one that will be shared with and enjoyed by the guests using chairs to catch up with friends, eat lunch, read a book, or reflect on their surroundings.

2017 Spring Festival of Faiths

Thanks-Giving Square

Visit the Spring Festival of Faiths at Thanks-Giving Square to learn about diverse celebrations of the season and sample special food traditions. Representatives from various faiths will set up tables in the Hall of Thanksgiving allowing guests to visit at their own pace. This is an opportunity to learn, share, and enjoy unique traditions within our community. The purpose is to share commonalities and differences between faith groups and to appreciate the mutual recognition of the rituals. This program is free and presented by the Interfaith Council.

As a longtime United Nations Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), the Thanks-Giving Foundation has committed to spreading the message of thanksgiving and interfaith dialogue to people of all races and cultures. In 2016 we began the process of translating interpretive signage and a new Thanks-Giving Square visitor guide into the six official United Nations languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, French, Russian, and Arabic. In February we completed the Arabic translation, which is now available on our website and in a downloadable PDF brochure. Translations are conducted by professional languages services, and then reviewed by local members of the community and Interfaith Council.

With this edition, English, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic guides are now available. We plan to complete the French and Russian translations by the end of the year.  Contact us if you would like to contribute financially to complete this endeavor.
