A Note from the Mayor

Although we experienced two bouts of winter weather the first week of February, both were short in duration with minimal impact to roadways and the citizens of Maumelle. While there have been several days of spring like warm temperatures, there is still a chance for more wintry weather during the month of March, and we will stay prepared to deal with any winter weather event.

Congratulations to the Maumelle High School wrestling team, who captured their second consecutive State Championship in February. The team scored a record 352.5 points at the 2014 1A-5A Arkansas State Wrestling Tournament, with thirteen Medalists, eleven All-State selections and nine Individual State Champions.Justin Butler was a three-time State Champion, and Cole Brainerd, Keion McVay, Daniel Viera, and Malik Singleton are two-time State Champions.Four wrestlers have signed letters of intent to continue wrestling at the collegiate level.

Single Stream recycling began on February 24, 2014. City crews will continue picking up recyclables at the curb on a weekly basis and will be collecting additional items than previously accepted. Starting February 24th, you may add junk mail, office paper, magazines, cardboard, milk and juice containers (paper or plastic), steel cans, aluminum cans, plastic bottles and jugs and newspapers. All containers containing food or drink must be rinsed out before disposal. Cardboard must be broken down or cut to lay flat. Glass, polystyrene foam (Styrofoam), plastic bags or any container that contains food waste will not be accepted. The existing blue bins will be used for all items. The City bins must be used, as employees are lifting the bins by hand to empty into the truck. If a larger personal bin is used, the weight could be too much to lift. Please contact Public Works if you have any questions.
