March 2018
WHAT TODAY'S YOUTH ACTIVISM
COULD MEAN FOR TOMORROW'S LEADERSHIP

On March 14th, thousands of students nationwide walked out of class in a mass protest against continued gun violence in the US and legislative inaction on the issue. This past week, additional "March for Our Lives" protests were held in major cities throughout the US, including the nation's capital. While the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, served as the immediate catalyst for student protests, the movement also reflects two generations slowly awakening to their potential political power.

For Millennials, heightened activism represents the beginning of a political tsunami that will span decades into the future. Read more about how younger generations will impact national politics in the future.

CELEBRATING OUR CLIENTS

The Sandoval Economic Alliance  and our Target Industry & Labor Shed Analysis made the news this month! The Albuquerque Journal reported on our finding that Sandoval County is patent-rich. Sandoval County produces patents at a rate that is five times greater than the metro area, six times greater than New Mexico's, and three times greater than the US.

Sonoma County  also made the news this month, including coverage of its road to recovery following the October 2017 wildfires. Another  article highlights Sonoma County's thriving medical device industry and the recent $90 million investment into a Santa Rosa medical device startup, Millipede. (Wow!)

Site Selection Magazine released its Top Metros of 2017 rankings. Congratulations to our clients in  Houston, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Charleston, and Columbus for making the list!

AVALANCHE IN ACTION

We spent part of March in sunny Sonoma County and West Palm Beach! We're nearing the end of Strategic Sonoma, and we  couldn't  be more impressed with how resilient and dedicated the community is.

We just kicked off a strategy for West Palm Beach, Florida. Tony and Noelle had a ridiculously enjoyable first visit, including tours of the Rybovich SuperYacht Marina, the West Palm Beach Boat Show, the Warehouse District, and Subculture Coffee. We can't wait to go back!

Personally, most of our team escaped SXSW madness in Austin to experience economies abroad. From New Zealand and Tokyo to Barcelona, Amsterdam, and the Dominican Republic, our crew traveled the globe to bring fresh ideas home to our clients.
