From the CEO...

These are very exciting times in Nevada, and I mean all of Nevada.  We continue to work hard to get our message out about the successes and challenges in the various regions.  You can help us spread the word by sharing the following stories through available social media challenges.  Let's tell the country what we've got going on:

In the Construction Industry,   wo
rkers confront serious hazards on a regular basis.  Among these workers, falling from heights or elevated surfaces contribute to some of the most serious injuries and compensation costs.  Historically, falls are the leading cause of death in construction, accounting for approximately one third of all fatalities in the industry.  Construction industry employers have a responsibility to provide the training and equipment necessary to apply fall prevention methods and the fall arrest systems to personally protect the workers who are at risk of falling to lower levels.  Before exposing workers to potential fall hazards, employers must assess the workplace to determine if walking or working surfaces have the necessary strength and structural integrity to safely support the workers.  Once it is determined that the work surfaces will safely support the work activity, the employer must determine whether fall protection is required (using the requirements set forth in 29 CFR 1926.501) and, if so, select and provide workers with fall protection systems that comply with the criteria found in 29 CFR 1926.502.  Are you protecting your workers from falling from elevated surfaces?  It is worth your time to learn more about fall protection, and most importantly, it is worth your monetary investment to implement the necessary training program and safety equipment systems to protect your workers every day, on every job.  For more information on Fall Protection and Prevention, or other construction industry safety questions or concerns, please contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, at (800) 859-3177 and we will be happy to assist you.

Workforce Development Update:
volunteers3_hdr.jpg
School Career Day season is upon us! We are spending a lot of time visiting schools and promoting careers in construction. We are talking to kids about the various career options and are generating a lot of interest in the BuildNV.org site as well. Kids are interested to learn about how to get into the industry and the various career pathways. They also love to talk to those actually working in the industry. So if you have some time and would like to join us at any school visits, let us know!

We also continue to develop programs to meet the needs of our member companies. We are excited to announce a new component to our partnership with JOIN and the

.
The Construction Awareness class is a 15-hour course that will provide the OSHA-10 curriculum as well as an additional 5 hours of introductory, hands-on learning for participants. This additional training will consist of an introduction of various hand tools, including usage as well as construction terminology and applications. The goal of this course is to provide some basic training for young adults interested in gaining entry-level employment in our industry.

As always, if you have questions about our Workforce Development efforts or would like to accompany us at school career days, please reach out to Pam Duxbury, [email protected]
