How to Help
We have plenty of areas where we need help to make mountain biking better in the Tahoe Area.

-Trail Work Volunteers

-Help with food donations and lunch transport for Trail Days.

-Project Managers- Have an idea?  Willing to put in the work on it?  We also have several projects that could use help to divide the load.

-Donations of prizes for Trail Days and other events.

-Photographers to document all the awesome work we are doing.

- Graphic Design assistance for layout and other artwork.

-Ride Leaders

-Trail Angels to help with logistics and shuttles for TAMBA rides.

Greetings,
Progress continues to be made on several TAMBA projects but we need your help!  See the rest of this message for how to help TAMBA fundraise for the Bijou Bike Park in South Lake and spend a minute to send an e-mail to support the Nevada State Park Management Plan update that includes both new singletrack trails and opening other trails to mountain bikes.

The Bijou Bike Park originally scheduled for discussion at the South Lake City Council last week was postponed while some small details were being worked out with the City.  When the presentation is re-scheduled we will let you know, as a show of support would be fantastic.

The Reno Pump Track being built in conjunction with the Poedunk's was endorsed by the Neighborhood Advisory Board this week and will move on to the Parks and Recreation Commission in April.  Several people from the cycling community attended and it also helped that we had over 140 people sign an online letter of support, many offering to help with the construction and maintenance.  We are still collecting signatures on that as well as coordinating letters of support from other organizations in Reno to add to the proposal.

And our friends over in Truckee are fully approved now for the Truckee Pump Track and starting to line up resources to help with the construction scheduled to start when the weather permits.  Follow them on their Facebook page.

Have you seen our website lately?  If you are curious about the dozen or so trail projects we are involved with, check out the Projects page on our website.  If you would like to get involved with the planning of any of these, please contact us.

Thanks,
kj

Help us fundraise for the Bijou Bike Park!
Kirkwood has offered us a great opportunity to raise some much needed funds for the construction of the Bijou Bike Park in South Lake Tahoe.  They are having the High Up Music Festival on Saturday, March 24 and they need people to staff the Sierra Nevada keg trailer.  We need 12 people to help with pouring and serving beer from 2pm to 7pm.  If you are over 21 and can help with this, please e-mail president@mountainbiketahoe.org.  We get $1 for every beer we pour.  They are expecting a couple thousand people to attend the festival, so the potential to raise some funds is excellent.  This would help us meet our match for the $5000 grant from Specialized so it's like doubling our money!

Nevada State Park Management Plan
The Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, which encompasses many of the great trails on the east side of the lake, is in the process of updating its General Management Plan.  This will be the guiding document for the park for the next several years.  TAMBA was successful in getting several ideas for new trail connections and opening trails to bikes into the Plan revision.  Now we need your help!

Please attend the public workshop on the plan next Wednesday, March 21 in Carson City.  It is at the Bryan Building at 901 South Stewart Street from 6pm-8:30pm.  Attend for all or part of it, but make your voice as a mountain biker heard!

If you can't attend, please take one minute to send an e-mail to tahoesp@hughes.net and express your support for more singletrack for bikes.  You may cut-and-paste the following message or create your own if you have additional suggestions:

Dear Park Supervisor Howard,

I am writing to express my support for the inclusion of additional multi-use singletrack trail in the General Management Plan revision.  I also support the opening of the Snow Valley Peak section of the Tahoe Rim Trail to mountain bikes.  As you know, the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park backcountry is an amazing place to mountain bike that is enjoyed both by locals as well as attracting visitors from around the world.  Thank you for your continued support of mountain biking!

Sincerely,
Your Name Here

I will close by saying that the State Park staff have been excellent partners with TAMBA and most of them are very supportive of having more bike trails.  So why the letters?  This plan is constructed with public input. If they get 50 letters from people saying they don't want bikes allowed on the new trails, it means that we better come up with at least 50 letters from mountain bikers asking for access.  Simple as that.  Please send that e-mail!

Pedal Driven Movie Screening

TAMBA is partnering with the Poedunks mountain bike group in Reno to do another screening of the film Pedal Driven.  It will be on March 22 at CommRow in downtown Reno.  CommRow is Reno's newest gathering spot with several bars and eateries in a non-smoking, non-gaming atmosphere.  There is inside bouldering and the worlds tallest climbing wall up the outside of the building! Social hour starts at 6pm with the movie starting shortly after 7pm.  Tickets will be $10 and proceeds will be split between TAMBA and the Poedunks.

See the movie trailer HERE.

Help finish the Sierra Canyon Trail
Are you itching to start trail work this year?  Our friends over at Carson Valley Trails Association have already started!  Over 13 miles of the Sierra Canyon Trails above Genoa were built last year, but much work still needs to be done to finish the project.  Where it was machine built, it needs to be hand-finished to make good riding and some of the switchbacks on the steep sections that were hand-built still need to be completed. They are working every Monday, Thursday and Saturday in March.  Please check the details on their website  www.carsonvalleytrails.org

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
