Meet Becky!

Tell us a little bit about yourself -
I live in Somerville, NJ with my husband Dan and our huge Maine Coon cat Ash. I’m in a time of transition in my life, so I have been making a point to focus on self-care and healthy habits to stay balanced. In the past year, I finished graduate school for counseling and got married. I recently started working as a school counselor in an elementary school, which was a career change for me, and I love it!

In my spare time I love thrift shopping – I am a collector of midcentury furniture, house décor and kitchen items (like Pyrex), so I love the hunt. I have a lot of fun decorating our house and doing projects. My husband and I love living in New Jersey – there is a lot of great stuff to do here! On our weekends and nights out, you can usually find us visiting restaurants, breweries and wineries. We especially love spending time down the shore in Asbury Park, and daytrips to NYC. We also can be homebodies (especially in the winter!) so we are happy to stay home, too – lucky for me, I married a great cook, so we really enjoy trying new recipes together. (With all this food talk, you can see why I need a workout routine! )

How long have you been taking classes at DanceFIT?
  Last year, I tried a complimentary virtual class gifted to me by my good friend Jen Hudon, and I loved it! The first class I tried was Barre Fusion. When I heard about the January 6Fit challenge, I knew I had to get in on it! And I’m so grateful I did. I have been taking classes almost daily since early January – the virtual classes are getting me out of bed in the morning to work out, and I genuinely look forward to them. (I am NOT a morning person!) I was struggling to keep up a workout routine before this, but now I feel committed to it and so inspired to continue. I’m feeling great!

What is your favorite thing about DanceFIT? 
I love that the virtual classes are always different each time, so I never feel bored. I also love that everyone can take them at their own pace – there are always modifications and adjustments, and the instructors are so supportive and helpful. I love the variety of classes I have taken right in my living room, with the real-life connection to instructors and the others in class. It creates a great sense of community, accountability and motivation.

Favorite workout accessory: 
My cat - he’s my cheerleader! It’s strange, but he seems to be obsessed with joining me for my workouts. I honestly don’t think he has missed one. He lies near me and purrs, and rolls around (sometimes onto my mat, so he gets in my way!) He is old and sometimes he can be crabby, but for some reason my workouts make him so happy and loveable. I genuinely enjoy this happy time with him, and he is a calming and funny addition to my workouts. It sounds silly, I know! But if you see me laughing during my workouts, he is probably the reason!
