NAMEPA joined the Ocean Conservancy and a variety of other businesses and organizations in Washington, D.C. to talk with members of Congress and the Administration about the benefits of ocean planning.  These meetings encouraged our elected officials to support smart ocean planning, a process that uses science to develop comprehensive ocean plans to manage ocean resources efficiently and balance ocean uses. The trip also included a meeting with Beth Kerttula, the Director of the National Ocean Council. To learn more about smart ocean planning, visit the Ocean Conservancy's website: http://www.oceanconservancy.org/our-work/marine-spatial-planning.

NAMEPA Greets Old Friends and
New Interests at CMA 2015

The NAMEPA booth at the CMA Conference, held in Stamford, CT on March 23-25, 2015, was bustling with old friends and new interests. Many stopped by the NAMEPA Exhibit asking questions about the work NAMEPA is doing with the industry, seafarers and port communities to promote sound environmental practices. Industry leaders, students and educators stopped to learn about our upcoming events, education material, meet our staff, and learn about NAMEPA's mission to Save Our Seas. NAMEPA is stretching its reach throughout North America and the Western Hemisphere with industry and public education and people are taking notice. NAMEPA has exhibited at the CMA Conference each year to discuss and review; to meet the people in the industry and invite maritime students to join and learn about the marine industry. It is a great place to be!

NAMEPA and Ocean Conservancy Sign MOU

On March 3rd, NAMEPA and the Ocean Conservancy signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in order to foster a collaborative effort that encourages marine pollution prevention and increases public awareness of impacts and mitigation techniques of marine pollution. This June we are launching Marina Cleanup Day, and are working to enlist recreational boaters and marinas to become ocean stewards. For more information on Marina Cleanup Day and how you can get involved, contact Elise Avallon, Education and Outreach Manager, at [email protected]

Green Marine is a voluntary environmental certification program for the North American marine industry. It is a rigorous, transparent and inclusive initiative that addresses nine key environmental issues.
