Legends of the Celtic Harp

The Door Between the Worlds is a dramatic journey in music and story into the realms of the Celtic "Otherworld."   The Celtic people have always believed that there are two worlds. There is the world that we live in. And then there is "The Otherworld." This Land of Faery is filled with wonder and delight, but also darkness and peril.   The acclaimed ensemble  Legends of the Celtic Harp  opens the door into this mystical world with music played on Celtic harps, Irish bouzouki, mandolin, cittern, and Swedish nyckelharpa.  It tells the tales of that legendary land...from which no one returns unchanged.

HARWOOD STAFF MEMBERS LEARN OUR DiSC PROFILES

DiSC Workshop Action Shot

One of the great things about being part of the University of New Mexico is the access that the Harwood is afforded to UNM's resources. That was in evidence on March 2, when the Harwood's entire staff participated in a fascinating teambuilding workshop lead by UNM's Employee and Organizational Development area.  Before the session, each staff member took an online assessment focused on determining our DiSC profiles.
These profiles measure four tendencies: Dominance (D), Influence (I), Steadiness (S), and Conscientiousness (C). The results? Our team is heavy on "D" and "C," but not so much on "S."   In other words, we're a passionate group that likes to get things done!

FROM TAOS MUNICIPAL SCHOOLS TO TATE MODERN

Agnes Martin,  Mid-Winter
What do Taos Municipal Schools and the
Tate Modern in London, England have in common?  An appreciation for Agnes Martin's painting Mid-Winter.  This painting, created around 1954, is part of the Taos Municipal Schools Historic Art Collection, on long-term loan to The Harwood Museum of Art.  And it will be part of a traveling retrospective exhibition of the work of former Taos resident - and internationally acclaimed artist - Agnes Martin.  The exhibition will open this June at the Tate Modern and then travel to Dusseldorf, Los Angeles and New York.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

Susan Longhenry

Dear Friends,

Happy March!  This one came in like a polar bear, rather than a lion, but we've emerged from the snow ready to bring you another dynamic month of exhibitions, programs and events.

We're in a musical state of mind this month, with three concerts bringing the Arthur Bell Auditorium to life.  We kick things off tomorrow evening, with a performance by the Legends of the Celtic Harp.  Patrick Ball has played to full houses at the Harwood in the past, so we're looking forward to an enchanted evening.  The Taos Chamber Music Group follows that up this weekend with concerts celebrating composer Maurice Ravel, and Roy Dunlap and Marcus Parsley bring their jazz sounds to the Harwood on March 20.

Advance tickets to all of these concerts are available by calling 575.758.9826, or stopping by the Museum's admissions desk.

See you at the Harwood!
