Ana and her husband are seniors and were struggling to make ends meet on their limited social security income. While seeking medical services at Providence Tanasbourne Medical Center, Ana was referred to their new Community Resource Desk conveniently located in the clinic lobby.
Ana was able to stop by the desk after her appointment and talk to the resource specialist. She asked for help finding ways to supplement their income so they could have some breathing room with their bills.
Ana mentioned that winter was extremely hard for them because their electricity costs went up significantly. They were already behind on their payments. The resource specialist helped her schedule an appointment for energy assistance with Community Action, who is on-site at the Desk one day each week. After answering a few eligibility questions it turned out that Ana and her husband were also eligible for Meals on Wheels, which could further supplement their limited income. The resource specialist helped them apply online.
Today Ana and her husband are receiving hot meals through Meals on Wheels. This both eases the cost burden of food, as well as the physical energy it took to prepare meals. She also received financial assistance to pay her energy bill through Community Action, right in the comfort of her doctor's office. She even had enough left over to apply a small credit to her overdue PGE bill.
Ana says that she never would have known that these important resources were available had it not been for the Community Resource Desk's help. Thank you to our partners Providence Health & Services and Impact NW for helping to make Community Action's important services more accessible to people like Ana.
