Update: Support Groups

We are happy to offer 14 support groups throughout the state. Lupus support groups provide an opportunity to spend time with others impacted by the disease. Sharing experiences, methods of coping and insights into living with lupus helps members develop coping strategies to reduce the stress that often accompanies living with a chronic illness.  We hope you'll attend a support group meeting soon. Click here to see all Indiana locations and details about each group.

Ask the Experts: Understanding and Managing the Stress of Caregiving

"Ask the Experts" is a series of educational talks and presentations on a variety of topics designed to provide you with important information about living with lupus. This month, Sharon Mack, Health Educator for the Lupus Foundation of America, provides helpful tips and advice about caring for yourself while     caring for a loved one with lupus.

Josie Pearce: Finding the Power to Stay Positive

On the outside, Josie Pearce seems like your average 17-year-old. The bright and bubbly teenager is a straight-A student, teaches dance classes at a local community center and was crowned Miss Garden Grove's Outstanding Teen last summer. You'd never know that just a few years ago Josie's parents were taking her from doctor to doctor, trying to figure out why their once energetic daughter now spent days lying on the couch unable to move or attend the ballet classes she loved.

Answer: It is best to consult your physician before taking any new medications or supplements, to avoid potential interactions with the medications used to keep lupus symptoms under control. Generally, people with lupus are advised to avoid alfalfa (Medicago sativa) or any supplements that include alfalfa. Also, supplements containing Echinacea should be avoided as there have been case reports suggesting they might be involved in triggering or worsening lupus symptoms. Learn More
