Welcome to March in Gig Harbor!

Hold on folks - spring is on its way! Beautiful buds will soon be popping everywhere and we are gearing up for some fun to celebrate the return of warmer weather. Read on for announcements about Gig Harbor Paddlers Cup happening on April 8th & 9th this year (at Eddon Boat Park) and Summer Sounds at Skansie (returning each Tuesday beginning June 27th at the beautiful new Skansie Brothers Park). Progress is being made on the new Welcome Plaza at the park, the restroom building is taking shape and the project is moving forward to completion. See City updates below for all details about the project. Meanwhile, support our local businesses during construction - they are open and ready to welcome you.

Summer Sounds at Skansie Lineup

Dust off those lawn chairs and blankets - Summer Sounds are right around the corner, and you won't want to miss out on the fun in our newly renovated Skansie Brothers Park! Paddlers Cup soon accepting registrations

Join us for a weekend of SUP, kayak, canoe, outrigger, para-canoe, and dragon boat racing at historic Eddon Boat Park in beautiful downtown Gig Harbor on April 8th & 9th. Returning this year is the popular 'Cross Narrows Challenge' - human powered craft making the 6 mile trek from Eddon Boat Park to Pt. Defiance and back. Watch the action from Eddon Boat Park or the Street End Park or anywhere in between. Also returning, sanctioned canoe and kayak racing, and the popular dragon boat competition. Mark you calendar now for a weekend of fun on the water!

2017 Health & Safety Expo

Hosted by the Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One, the Gig Harbor Health & Safety Expo is Saturday, March 4 from 9 am to 2:30 pm at 10222 Bujacich Rd NW. A wide variety of free health screenings will be provided on site. A free mobile shredding truck will also be available from 9 am to noon. 3 bag per person limit.

Pop Up to the Plate with Mariner's Chef, Jeremy Bryant, at Gig Harbor's first Pop Up Restaurant on March 11th presented by the Harbor History Museum. Participate in the silent auction for Mariner's memorabilia while enjoying some of your favorite players favorite foods! The Green Gig

Celebrating its 7th year, the Green Gig has become an annual locally grown tradition. The fun-filled evening on April , presented by the Gig Harbor Foundation, will feature an exquisite meal of 100%  locally grown and produced tastes transformed by our 2017 celebrity chef, music by Rob Rigoni of Budapest West, heartwarming stories, and original collaborative artworks created with Open Studio Tour artists on auction. Wine, beer and soft drinks included.
First Saturday Art Walk

Indulge your love of art at the First Saturday Art Walk every month along Gig Harbor's Downtown Waterfront. This free event allows art enthusiasts to stroll through 9 galleries featuring artist demonstrations, refreshments, and displays reflecting a diverse selection of mediums and styles. Visit them all and enter to win a $50 gift certificate!

Ladies Night Out 

Enjoy a night off while finding your creative side at Java 'n Clay on March 17th. No worrying about work, the kids, or every other day to day stresses. David Lanz at Chapel on Echo Bay

Seattle native and Grammy-nominated pianist David Lanz will be touring the Northwest for the first time in more than a year, and kicking off Chapel on Echo Bay's 2017 programming season on March 11th! David's performance will coincide with the release of his new CD, "Norwegian Rain". Fox Island is one of four Northwest tour stops. Purchase your tickets now for this event.

We the People 2.0 Documentary

Meaningful Movies in Gig Harbor presents We the People 2.0 on March 10th. This film shares stories from communities across the country that are organizing against fracking, sludging of farmland, and other threats, and are confronting our structure of law, which elevates the rights of corporations over the rights of people, communities, and nature. What we do about it is up to us.

PenMet Dragon Boat Training

Participants will receive training on correct posture and paddling techniques. The trainings will include various paddling routines designed to improve technique and stamina. Race practice for distance speed and race starts are more intense on Saturdays. You do not have to want to race to take part. The practices run all year with dates differing according to the season.
Harbor Institute

Tacoma Community College Gig Harbor Campus presents Harbor Institute, a non-credit program for adults who want the fun and challenge of a college class without the papers, tests, and grades. With affordable prices, Harbor Institute makes it easy to learn local history, immerse yourself in art, or keep up on some of the most exciting and important trends unfolding in the work at large.

Harbor WildWatch

Harbor WildWatch is proud to re-open the Skansie Visitor Interpretive Center on  March 2nd! A grant from the Ben B. Cheney Foundation has funded an interactive sandbox, a year-round touch tank, and an underwater camera with live feed back to the house. In addition, Harbor WildWatch offers an array of activities throughout the town that are fun for all ages. Visit the house to view amazing sealife and learn about local watersheds.

Family Boatbuilding Workshop will take place Saturday & Sunday, March 4th and 5th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each group is assigned their own wooden boat expert who will guide your team every step of the way through the construction of a 12-foot, 90-pound Salt Bay Skiff. On Sunday, after a ceremonial launch and row on Gig Harbor Bay, the skiff will be yours to take home and enjoy forever. The 2-day workshop is held Saturdays and Sundays from 9am-5pm. Three boatbuilding groups of 2-5 members participate each session. (Children: 12 years and older are welcome).

As a valued member of the Gig Harbor community, we invite you to participate in an informal discussion as to how we can better serve you through exciting features on our new City website, to be launched later this year. Some of the new features include "Notify Me" which allows citizens to receive information tailored to the issues and topics important to them. The new Document Center will provide thousands of public records that can be accessed by the public without having to make a formal records request.

Our goal is to provide citizens access to information easily and efficiently, producing greater transparency between citizens and their government.What's important to you that these new features should include?
