Hello dear friends and clients.
Yes, it's true. The dogs ate our "homework," our 2017 tax prep materials and return! It took John hours to piece it all back together and he was not happy. Needless to say, the dogs spent the day in time out. I'm feeling like I have the
naughtiest
dogs in the world. Do you have a dog story? Share it with me so I don't feel so bad (mad)!
On a more serious side...As I write you today, I note the passing of Stephen Hawking. His legacy to science will live well beyond him. He commented about many subjects, not only science. Here is one of my favorite quotes. "Many
people find the universe confusing - it's not."
That always gives me hope. Now back to real estate.
In the first two months of 2018, we saw the current overall inventory level was 16 percent lower than what it was in March of 2017. However, spring historically brings new listings and accelerated movement. On the flip side the number of residential sales in Flathead County in the first two months of 2018 was up 1.1 percent from the same period in 2017 and
median sales price for January and February was $277,500, which is 11 percent higher than the same period in 2017.
People from all over want to be in the Flathead Valley and the Valley is growing with new infrastructure, retail and health services. It's a great place to live and work!

Kelley's Market Trends: The first two months of residential sales

The current overall inventory level is 16 percent lower than what it was in March of 2017. The number of residential sales in Flathead County in the first two months of 2018 was up 1.1 percent from the same period in 2017.
Mortgage interest rates are starting to increase. The current average 15-year rate is around 3.9 percent, compared to 3.3 percent at this time a year ago. The average 30-year rate is around 4.4 percent compared to 4.1 percent in March of 2017. The increasing mortgage interest rate tends to decrease affordability.

Denise's Kitchen Corner... Irish Cream Bundt Cake
|
INGREDIENTS
1 cup chopped pecans
1 (18 1/2 oz) package yellow cake mix
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix
4 eggs
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3/4 cup Irish cream
1/2 cup butter
1/44 cup water
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C).
Grease and flour a 10 inch Bundt pan. Sprinkle chopped nuts evenly over bottom of pan. In a large bowl, combine cake mix and pudding mix. Mix in eggs, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup oil and 3/4 cup Irish cream liqueur. Beat for 5 minutes at high speed. Pour batter over nuts in pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then invert onto the serving dish. Prick top and sides of cake.
Spoon glaze over top and brush onto sides of cake. Allow to absorb glaze repeat until all glaze is used up.
To make the glaze: In a saucepan, combine butter, 1/4 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Bring to a boil and continue boiling for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup Irish cream. This is a treat for a St. Patty's Day meal or anytime! I took this picture in my very own kitchen!

Denise's Book Corner... The Alice Network

Here is the gist...
When pregnant American student Charlie St. Clair is banished to Europe by her family to have her baby, she takes the opportunity to head for London to find her missing French cousin and teams up with Eve, a former spy from the Alice Network, to solve the mystery.
I loved this book for a number of reasons. It celebrates women, heroism, strength and it's based in history. The Alice Network really existed. It was a secret spy network made up mostly of women and commissioned by the British during World War I. They creatively smuggled codes and messages around hat pins, in umbrellas and in lots of "in plain sight" ways. That's the backdrop for this novel that involves 3 travelers across Europe and spans two World Wars. I love the parallels between the wars and the perseverance of the characters.
The writer expertly weaves both World Wars showing the trauma that began in one and crossed over to the other. If you like spy novels, war stories and books with strong characters, you'll like this one.
