Thank you for your support. I invite you to read this month's newsletter to be informed of matters that concern you as well as community events in your area. Last month I traveled to Tallahassee to request funding for the several Miami-Dade County projects. I am happy to report
the Underline,
LudlamTrail and
the Military Musuem will be receiving the funding needed to become a reality in our community.

Congrats to Doral Special Olympics Basketball Team
|
On March 2, Commissioner Diaz presented congrats certificates to the Doral Special Olympics team for winning the silver medal at the Special Olympics Area Basketball competition held on January 9 at the University of Miami! Once again congrats and keep up the excellent work for the 2016-17 Basketball Season.

Energy Efficient home legislation passes
Commissioner Diaz's
PACE legislation
won final approval on March 8 at the Board of County Commission
meeting, allowing homes to be more energy-efficient. His legislation will make the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program available to property owners in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. PACE, a voluntary program available in many cities across the United States, provides municipal government financing to participating homeowners for energy efficiency upgrades or renewable energy installations such as solar panels and improved insulation. Homeowners are then assessed annually through their property tax bills for the improvements.
Exploring one-way streets or reversible lanes in Doral
Commissioner Diaz sponsored a resolution hoping the City of Doral will be the first city to benefit from turning some two-way roads into one-way streets or reversible lanes to reduce congestion. The report is scheduled to be presented to the board in 90 days.

Commissioner Diaz hosts Easter event for District 12 residents

Many District 12 families took advantage of Commissioner Diaz 's Easter family event on March 18 at North Trail Park. Families enjoyed taking pictures with the Easter Bunny, an egg hunt, music, bounce house and the movie "HOP"

Commissioner Diaz joined Mayor Carlos Gimenez and elected officials from the City of Doral at the ribbon cutting ceremony of 97th Avenue in Doral. The opening of 97th Avenue, which connects between 74th and 58th Streets, will alleviate traffic congestion in the area and provides an alternative for motorists. This project was done under a Joint Participation Agreement (JPA) between Miami-Dade County and the City of Doral.

Community meeting regarding NW 58 Street from NW 97 Avenue to SR-826 Roadway Improvements

There will be a community meeting on Wednesday, April 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to discuss road improvements from NW 58th Street from NW 97 Avenue to SR-826. The meeting will take place at the City of Doral Government Center, located at 8401 NW 53 Terrace at the 1st floor multipurpose room. The road improvements consists of reconstruction of the existing road to a 4-lane roadway with a continous center turning lane, bicycle facility, sidewalk, curb and gutters, improvements to stormwater drainage system, pavement markings and signage, upgrade traffic signalization and roadway lighting.

As the Chairman of the International Trade Consortium, Commissioner Diaz participated at the grand opening of the Collectif Cooperation Export Martinique, a trade office at the Miami Free Zone on March 15. Welcome to District 12 Collectif Cooperation Export Martinique!

Roadway Resurfacing Project
The project is located on NW 107 Avenue from NW 25 Street to NW 41 Street. This project will improve the roadway surface and driving conditions and includes milling, resurfacing, adjustment of valve boxes, manholes, ADA Ramps, connectors, pavement markings and signage. Project is expected to be completed in June 2016.

Free Zumba classes at North Trail Park
|
The Miami-Dade County Parks, as part of their health and fitness initiative, will be offering free "Zumba Gold" classes to residents age 55 and older at North Trail Park Community Center, 780 NW 127th Avenue. "Zumba Gold" mingles fun and energetic music with lower impact movements to improve balance, flexibility, cardiovascular health and muscle conditioning. Miami Dade College offers free tax services
|
Starting February 1, Miami Dade College will offer free tax prep for low-income individuals, the elderly and non-English speakers who reside in Miami-Dade County through their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Last year, the program helped about 2,400 people file their income taxes. For more information and locations, view their website

Open Enrollment for MDX Cash Back Toll Program in 2016

If you drive on SR 836/Dolphin Expressway, 112/Airport Expressway, SR 874/Don Shula Expressway, SR 878/Snapper Creek Expressway or SR 924/Gratigny Parkway you could be eligible for a refund by enrolling in their Cash Back Toll Dividened Program by March 31, 2016.

On November 30, 2009, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six in partnership with the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) began a reconstruction project of the State Road (S.R.) 826 (Palmetto Expressway) and S.R. 836 (Dolphin Expressway) Interchange. Now that construction has begun, there will be many upcoming lane and ramp closures on the Dolphin Expressway.
