PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) begins at all elementary schools with special guests and more. "High School Musical" at JJMS on March 16 - 18. "Little Women" at JJHS March 30 - April 1. 

Science Fairs Celebrate Active Learning 

From evolutionary camouflage and fingerprint forensics to slime, stardust, static electricity, oil spills, and springs, approximately one hundred topics were explored at each elementary school's Science Fair in February.

Each investigation was presented in a colorful display, accompanied by the student or team who had created it.  The children's knowledge and their ability to communicate were as impressive as their projects. MORE.


Middle School Champ Advances to States in National Geographic Bee

Ryan Kaplan, an eighth grader at John Jay Middle School, qualifies for the state level competition of the 2017 National Geographic Bee.

Engineering Class Visits New NY Bridge 

John Jay High School's Principles of Engineering class took a field trip to the New NY Bridge in early March to connect what they learned in the classroom to the real world. 

The visit began in a fourth floor conference room with panoramic views of the bridges and river. Construction Compliance Engineer Tom McGuiness told students about the challenges his team faced and their innovations and accomplishments, and gave them some career advice.   MORE.


KLSD Considers School Start Time Changes  

KLSD is considering modifications to each of its five schools' start and end times. These changes have ramifications on school bus transportation and require an increase to the Transportation Department's budget.

There will be a presentation at the March 9 Board of Education meeting to further explore this alternative. That meeting will take place in John Jay High School's cafeteria at 7:30 pm.
