From the Library Administrator
|
Despite the cold and snow, patrons turned out for programs they loved throughout the month of February. We would like to thank the volunteers and community members who make many of our offerings possible. Of note, on February 7 our guest storyteller led children on a joyous Chinese dragon parade throughout the 2nd floor, and the Lemont Embroiderer's Guild shared their talents with us in the library's lobby to end "Love Your Library Month" on February 28.
Programming made possible by our community volunteers continues in March with French Storytime at 10 a.m. on March 7, and the Library Needlers meeting on March 16 from 6 - 8:30 p.m.
Volunteer efforts of the
Woodridge Friends of the Library
have recently resulted in a database covering the full text of the Woodridge Progress newspaper from 1969 - 1979. We extend our sincerest appreciation to the
Friends
and all of our volunteers for their commitment to the Woodridge Public Library.
Library staff and board members are also committed to bringing you quality programs, learning opportunities and resources. Staff members in the Adult/YA department write a wonderful blog: Woodridge Book Talk. You can connect with all of the books being discussed by the nine libraries participating in the ReDiscover: Celebrating Home program through a blog post from Reference and Readers Advisory Librarian Brenda O'Brien. As part of ReDiscover, Woodridge Public Library will host a book discussion of At Home by Bill Bryson on March 24 at 7 p.m. Check woodridgebooktalk.org each month to discover the latest literary news and read entertaining book reviews that you can depend on. We are getting ready for the SWAN catalog update in April. To prepare for this change, patrons are invited to verify their phone number, street address and email address with the Circulation Department's staff. When the new catalog debuts, PIN numbers will reset to the last four digits of your phone number. Once the catalog goes live in April you can choose to change your PIN number using the email address listed in your account. Answers to frequently asked questions regarding the new catalog can be found online or call 630-964-7899 to talk with a Woodridge Library staff member. Members of the Board of Trustees and I would like to keep you informed about plans for renovations that will be made throughout the library building. Please join us for one of the information sessions we are hosting on Tues., March 3 at 7 p.m. or on Thurs., March 12 at 10 a.m. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you this spring. Registration for ReDiscover (the new Big Read) is now open, bringing us inspiration for renewing our gardens and homes, and the Children's Department's Spring Break Specials (March 30-April 2) are not to be missed. Featured Artists: Holly Tyson and Tina Tyson-Dunne |
Holly Tyson and Tina Tyson-Dunne are a mother and daughter team that share a love of photography and art. Tina has degrees in photography and cinematography and Holly is a self-trained artist. Their pursuit of artistic subjects has taken them to Ireland, through bird sanctuaries, across wildlife preserves, and down farm roads all across the U.S. They invite you to see the world through their eyes when you visit the March Art Exhibit featuring ancient sites, historical barns of the Midwest, eagles fishing the Mississippi and dragonflies resting in a swamp.
