Marching into Spring!

March 2016

March is always an interesting time for us.  Jo is itching to get going with new ideas for breakfast, fresh and organic produce is always the order of the day, and I am the lucky one who gets to test them!  As English chef Jamie Oliver once said about ingredients, "if you can't pronounce it, and it reads like a NASA space project, you shouldn't eat it".  So it's simple fresh ingredients and we have gone one step further and started baking our own bread using spelt flour.  However, what would fresh bread be without homemade marmalade on top? One day last month and 18 pounds of seville oranges later, Jo and I (alright I have embelished, it was only Jo) have prepared the most delicious fresh orange marmalade to go with our home baked bread. Just one more reason to make the trip to the Parsonage and try it!
Like many of you, we are also concerned about our environment. Last year we replaced our furnace with an energy efficient one and completely insulated the Inn.  Although it has been a remarkably mild winter we have seen the results with vastly reduced energy usage and costs.  And working through tripadvisor, we have been awarded their environmental initiative the "Green Leaders, Silver Award".  Tripadvisor look at the complete picture including, recycling programs, home grown veggies, appliance efficiencies  and general conservation, so we are very proud of this achievement.
Lastly, and on a personal note, we're really excited about the imminent arrival of our first grandson, expected in early April (look out for pictures in our next newsletter).  Jo will be flying out to Ohio for the occasion.  I'll be joining her after attending the Association of Independent Hospitality Professionals first annual conference in Nashville (I know, someone has to do it!!).  Not all pleasure though as I am presenting a paper on financing.  Many of you have expressed an interest in Innkeeping, so come and see for yourself what's involved, I dare you!!
