10/3/13

Dear Friends,

What a party we had! On Tuesday, September 17th, the red carpets were packed with my actors of today and the stars of tomorrow to celebrate the launch of my new app/digital class,  "Stop Acting:  The Audition Class With Margie Haber."  The room was filled with fabulous actors and my students - from those who were with me in the "older days," to my newer students who are fresh faces on series and in films - Colin Egglesfield ("The Client List," "Rizzoli & Isles," Something Borrowed), Kali Hawk (We The Peeples, Couple's Retreat), Travis Van Winkle (in the new Michael Bay series, "The Last Ship"), Oliver Kieran-Jones (Recurring Guest Stars on "Glee" and "Episodes" - pictured right), and many more.

We celebrated at this fabulous restaurant, Aventine in Hollywood (can't recommend it enough!) with industry guests and actors.  I felt like a proud mother as the press repeatedly flashed their cameras (now I understand why actors wear sunglasses on the red carpet) of my students as they stood on the red carpet.

I kissed and hugged every one of them, like Bailey Noble (pictured below) - it was just announced that day that she is now a Series Regular on "True Blood."

I gleamed with pride as People magazine interviewed Colin Egglesfield (who has studied with me for 8 years).
It was a fabulous evening as
people enjoyed the ambiance, food, wine, music, and learning about my new app/digital class as young beautiful students from my studio walked round demonstrating it on iPads.

At 7:45 PM we took a break from partying as I stood on a platform overlooking the 200 guests and realized how lucky I am to influence and be affected by so many people... and mostly, how thankful I am for my relationships.  I smiled at my handsome sweet musician son Michael (he's 23 now!) who is always there supporting me.
My oldest, dearest friend Mary Wilson (of The Supremes) flew out from Vegas for the night to be there. She and I were roommates at the same age my son is now, during the Diana Ross and Supremes era (how crazy is that?!)  I noticed my composer friend, Alan Rich (he's worked with Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, etc.) and immediately (from the platform) introduced him to

Mary Wilson, of course!  My dear friend and Casting Director Fern Champion (and her handsome, "Silver Fox" Robert) came with our mutual friend Darby Hinton (who was my scene partner 30 years ago in a production of The Graduate).

My long-time and close friend, Suzanne Cortney was there - (she gave me her home to use to teach class in the late1980's) with her daughter and her
daughter's boyfriend, Casey Moss (he was my student and is now on "Days of Our Lives").
My darling sister, Joan, who flew out from Florida to be there and loves me unconditionally, and my partner, Susan Roberts, who is at my side in whatever new adventure I undertake (and that isn't easy!)  It was such an honor to have Susan's brother-in-law Robert Morse attend - and we're all so excited about his Emmy-nominee this season for his exceptional work on
"Mad Men."

So many actors who have taken my Master Class attended - I shared many laughs with the hilarious actors Tim Bagley and Mindy Sterling.  My dear friend and student Michael Corbett came - Michael is host of "Extra" and was so sweet to me a few years back and helped me make an incredible tribute  video for my mother's 100th birthday celebration.   I had a wonderful reunion and big hug with Kate Linder ("The Young and The Restless" after not seeing her for so many years.   It was also such a treat to see Charles Mesure who took my class years ago and has since starred in "Desperate Housewives" and "V."

Madalyn Horcher
I looked down and saw the beautiful Madalyn Horcher.  I discovered Madalyn when she was only 12 years old at an educational event I produced in Atlanta years back called "Big Break Hollywood."  Madalyn and her entire family ended up moving from Alabama and into my house in Los Angeles after the event, and she's been working with me and booking great projects ever since.  She'll be starring with another one of my students, Lorenzo Henrie in the upcoming film Riding 79.

Of course the event wouldn't have happened without the devotion and commitment and exceptional relationship that I have with my "right arm," Molly Harper, and my two collaborators and producers of the Stop Acting app/digital class, Barbara Babchick (co-author of my book) and Garet Field-Sells (tech whiz and son of my closest friends Joanne and Rich).

While up on this platform, I brought up and introduced Producer/Writer Oscar Torres, and some of the cast of the soon-to-be-released film, Strings - Lucas Till and Kherrington Payne.  Years back I supported Oscar in his life-story film, Innocent Voices.  It touched me so deeply that I wanted to be a part of this project.  So I spent many hours as Associate Producer and Acting Coach on the film, and worked with Josh Duhamel, Lucas Till, and Kherrington Payne to create the lives of these troubled "characters."

Twelve years ago when I wrote my book,  How To Get The Part...Without Falling Apart!, I never would have imagined that I would go on an exciting, revolutionary journey to communicate my philosophy through technology.   I feel blessed to have such people in my life as Garet Field-Sells, the technical genius who created this platform to reach thousands of actors all over the world.  And for those of you who don't have iPhone/iPad or prefer to watch it on your computer, the app/digital class is now all available on Vimeo On Demand!  Click here -

Series Regular, "The Last Ship"
I love my book and am very proud of it.  Many universities and colleges use it as a text book.  Everyone has been waiting for me to write a second book, but I wanted something different.  Books are technical and that's not the way I approach "acting" today.  I wanted to make it more of an experience of "living a life," not intellectualizing the script where one looks for over-all objectives or actions.  I wanted to encourage young actors, the up-and-coming, and even the Series Regulars, to look at acting as an opportunity to search deeply into a life that is more than just a scene, a preparation for an audition, or a table-read.  If we believe that life is precious, then it's not a rehearsal.  Why not live many lives fully as you journey through your own and become a wiser human being in the process!

I thank you all for your support.  The actors that came, my PR agent Melanie Frenkel, my students who helped work the event, my fabulous studio teachers, Cameron Radice and Cecil Bernardy for their gorgeous photos, Marcia Lansdown, Molly Harper, and especially my darling Neil Bagg who suffers from ALS but with a smile and sense of humor was the star of the night!
With my dear friend, Neil Bagg, and beautiful partner, Susan Roberts

Now go "LIVE THE LIFE!!!"

With love,

Margie
