Numbers mean everything in the world of business, sports, elections, recipes, banking, medicine, compensation, test scores, age and more. Behind every number is a driver that impacts the direction of the number. In some instances a low number is great as is the case with blood pressure and in others a high number is significant such as a bank account or profitability of a business. Charting numbers over time provides a visual of their significance and is instructive for steps to take or not to take for their change.
My numbers for most areas of performance require some adjusting in the 4th Quarter to reach what I have targeted for calendar year 2016. However, with determination and stepped up coaching from members in my network along with more focused efforts to heighten innovation and strategy in my thinking, I may meet or exceed targeted goals. One area that is most critical to measure in my judgment is leadership. To this end, I have created a tool to help quantify my leadership effectiveness.
You may wish to consider this tool in the upcoming year to identify gaps in your leadership, keeping in mind that your qualities and the weights (percentages) assigned to each quality may be different than mine. In all cases, the total of percentages assigned to each quality must add to 100%. I have also added a color for those areas that need attention. Below is the tool and a sample of results from applying percentages for selected qualities.
