Gather Together, Sing Together
Tuesday, May 23rd, MIC hosted its final Gather Together, Sing Together of the season, featuring speakers Rabbi Elana Rosen-Brown, Congregation Rodef Sholom, and Rev. Shokuchi Carrigan, Green Gulch Farm Center.
Musical selections of peace, hope, and love filled the sanctuary, led by Martha Wall with the accompaniment of John Steiner, Levi Ben-Shmuel, and chorus.
Rabbi Elana offered a gentle reminder of expressing mindfulness towards our bodies.
"Sometimes in the midst of doing this social work, we forget our bodies, to listen to them and take care of them...This long work of social change, it's always there, it's not going to disappear. We must sustain ourselves in the process of doing this work."
Rev. Shokuchi offered a message utilizing a short story which narrated a man's connection with a blade of grass, and how it allowed him to find sanctuary in the moment.
She said, "Our energetic grass root responses - These blades of grass have roots, and they connect us all, and we can take refuge in that."
