Monthly Interfaith Meditation

Rabbi Susan Leider

Wednesday, July 12, 2017
5:30-6:30 pm

First Presbyterian Church Chapel
1510 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael

Donation to MIC at the door.

Every Second Wednesday of the month, a leader from a different spiritual community will offer a meditation or spiritual practice and explain how it flows from the basic tenets of his/her faith tradition. Each gathering will include time for questions and insights that emerge from our shared time of intentional spiritual practice.

This month's leader is
Rabbi Susan Leider.

A Southern California native, Rabbi Leider received her Bachelor of Music and Masters of Fine Arts degrees from the University of California at Irvine. She also has a Master of Rabbinic Studies degree and her rabbinic ordination from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles. Combining her love of Judaism and music, Rabbi Leider brings a welcoming presence to multi-generational and participatory services. By integrating traditional texts with modern sources, she helps Jews to find meaning in their own spiritual journey. At the heart of her rabbinate is the belief that each person has a narrative to share with the community, and it is through sharing these stories that we build stronger connections with each other.

Wood Stove Rebate Program Outreach

Last call to apply for rebates to decommission or replace your fireplace or wood stoves. Focus is on helping homeowners who are low income or who live in a high wood smoke area. The Marin County Sustainability Team has been hard at work promoting rebates of up to $12,000 offered through the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and Marin County Government to Marin homeowners.  Sign up here: http://www.baaqmd.gov/grant-funding/residents/wood-smoke-rebate . It will say there is a wait-list, but it's worth getting on it, especially residents who are low-income or use their wood stoves as their sole source of heat.

You can learn more about this program through a recent radio interview here: http://kwmr.org/broadcasts/5304
Any questions, please contact Kellen Dammann, Sustainability Marketing & Outreach Specialist, at  (415) 473-2698.

Report from the Border Lands

Members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Tiburon are available to share their experiences from a recent delegation trip to the Arizona/Mexico border with BorderLinks. Eighteen people, including two youth, were in Tucson and environs for five days. We walked the dessert, experienced road-side checkpoints, attended an immigration hearing, touched the wall, and crossed the border into Mexico. This faith-based trip transformed our understanding about why people come to the United States, and what happens when they are detained by Homeland Security.

Chairs needed for Habit for Humanity's dedication event

We are reaching out to our faith partners for support in supplying about 50 chairs for our home dedication event at our Mt Burdell site in Novato on Saturday, July 29th, 2017. We would ask that the chairs could be delivered on Friday afternoon, July 28th or early morning on Saturday, July 29th. If you feel that no one would be able to deliver or pick up the chairs, we can reach out to our events team to see what we can do.  Please call Marie Stromberg-Wojcik, 415-625-1040 or e-mail [email protected].
