competition for Chicago's largest art prize is intense, only

Construction
work to begin on Damen Ave
The
City Water Department is expected to begin a major reconstruction
of a rapidly deteriorating water main on Damen Avenue
from Armitage to Churchill this fall. There will be delays
and
temporary closures of Damen so please consider alternative
routes
to get to work or school. Please be considerate of neighbors
while
using side streets. Details of the construction process will
be
available from the Water Department Project Manager at (312)742-3611,

Indoor Drive-In Movie
Please
join the Chicago Park District October 21-24 for an indoor
movie
series at the Wicker Park Fieldhouse (1425 W. Damen). All
movies
cost $2.00 for those 6 years & over. Kids 5 & under
and seniors

10/23 at 6:30pm; It Came from Outer Space 10/23 &

Scarecrow
Extravaganza
On
Saturday, October 23, the Wicker Park Committee will host
its Annual
Scarecrow Extravaganza. Join local businesses and community
groups
in sponsoring and dressing scarecrows in festive fall attire.
All scarecrows will be displayed on the lawn of A.N. Pritzker
School (2009 W. Schiller Ave) from Noon to 4 pm. The Wicker
Park Committee will supply straw, stakes, wire & paint
the rest
is up to your imagination! The fee for participation is $25
per
Family or group of 4, all proceeds benefit Wicker Park Committee.

Couture: Eco Fashion Show
Join
in the second annual fair trade eco-fashion show benefiting
Chicago
Gateway Green. The show will take place Sunday October 24
from
3-7pm at the LEED-certified Mercedes Benz showroom at 1520

First Fridays at the Flat Iron
The
Flat Iron Artists Association presents WPB First Fridays!
On the
First Friday of each month the Wicker Park/Bucktown area
will come
alive with a unique celebration of the arts. It's a neighborhood
pARTy and everyone is invited! Start your evening at the
historic Flat Iron Arts Building where you can explore two
floors
of art displayed in artists' studios and living spaces. Of
course,
the surrounding neighborhood is expecting you, so feel free
to
venture forth on your own and enjoy the boundless shopping,
dining
and nightlife opportunities our vibrant community has to
offer.
The next WPB First Friday will take place November 5 at the
Flat
Iron Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee from 6-10pm. Admission is
always
free, but donations are gratefully accepted. WPB is a sponsor

Paper and Electronics Recycling -- final event for
2010!
WPB's
final FREE paper shredding and recycling day of the season
will
be held on Saturday November 13. Bring your recyclables to
the KMART
parking lot on Ashland Ave (near Division) between

Wicker
Park Fountain Decorating Social
Join
the Wicker Park committee on Sunday, November 21 from
10am-4pm at
Wicker Park (1425 N. Damen) for a day of decorating the
fountain and
urns with lights, greens, and dried flowers and grasses from
the
Wicker Park gardens. All Ages Welcome!
CAPS Meetings
Residents in the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods that are
concerned about crime should plan to attend an upcoming CAPS
meeting. Wicker Park and Bucktown are located within the 13th and
14th Districts, and there are eight beats that cover the
neighborhood. Below is the list of all eight beats and the date and
location of each CAPS meeting. All meetings are from 7-8pm unless
otherwise noted:
Beat 1312 meets on the
second Tuesday of every month at St Helen's Church, 2301 W. Augusta
in the basement.
Beat 1322 meets on the
first Wednesday of every month at the 13th District, 937 N.
Wood.
Beat 1323 meets on the
third Wednesday of every month at the Northwest Settlement House,
1012 N. Noble, 2nd Floor.
Beat 1424 meets the
second Wednesday of every month at the Wicker Park Fieldhouse, 1425
N. Damen.
Beat 1431 meets the
first Thursday of every odd-numbered month at the 14th District,
