Kamm's Corners Farmers Market Starts Its Outdoor Season on Sunday at 10 a.m.  
 
 
Grab your bags to fill up on opening day at the Kamm's Corners Farmers Market. Expect to find fresh greens from Tyler's Farm, Irish soda bread (and pastries!) from Reilly's Irish Bakery, the finest olive oils and vinegars from The Olive Scene, and more, including neighbors you haven't seen all winter long! While shopping, grab a free cup of locally roasted coffee from the USS Challenger, a neighborhood fundraising group.

Enjoy music by the legendary Alex Bevan while you shop. Watch a chef demo at 11:30 a.m. by Chef James Kirkland from "farm to table" restaurant, AMP 150. In addition to picking up fresh food, check out scenic paintings by local artist Sherry McQueeney and hair accessories by Evie's Bowtique -- also offering unique gifts for purchase. Annual Town Meeting is set for St. Joseph Academy, Tuesday, June 16.
Annual Town Meeting. This year, it takes place on Tuesday, June 16, at St. Joseph Academy, 3470 Rocky River Drive. Sign-in starts at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. program.

Hear about neighborhood initiatives including the proposed Business Improvement District for "Downtown Kamm's Corners," the Rocky River Drive Master Plan project, renovation of the Alber Building, and our discussions with Bellaire Puritas Development Corporation around a Strategic Alliance. Councilman Marty Keane will provide news about city-related issues, and the West Park Historical Society will give a brief presentation on the origin of West Park. The community Impact and Safety Awards will also be presented.

Enjoy merchant giveaways at the spontaneous raffle throughout the evening. Then join us on the Scholars' Porch overlooking the valley for a fabulous sunset and refreshments.

Asphalt Cinema Returns to Impett Park on Friday, June 19

The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. with games conducted by local merchants and groups, free of charge! In fact, the entire event is free to attend, thanks to our sponsors, Fairview Hospital and Cuyahoga Arts & Culture. In June, concessions will be operated by Chick'iez Mobile Food Buggy, a new vendor at the Kamm's Corners Farmers Market. Purchase popcorn, beverages, and more!

Pork Chop Speedway returns. Watch as kids cheer their little piggy to the finish line for a prize! There will be a chance to draw a character from the movie for a prize. Added fun includes a DJ with activities to keep everyone entertained while the sun sets. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for the evening of family-friendly fun. 
   


Calling All Golfers!

The West Park Family YMCA invites you to play golf with them at their annual fundraiser on Friday, June 26, at Hickory Nut Golf Course in Columbia Station. This fun event brings together community leaders, neighbors, and YMCA advocates to raise funds for the Y's Annual Support Campaign. Money raised will be used for a scholarship program to ensure that nobody is turned away from the Y's programs for lack of funds. This is a great cause! West Park Kiwanis Club Independence Day Parade Deadline Approaches

 
Parade entry application deadline
 is June 20.
Time is running out to download the parade application here and mail it to participate in this popular parade produced by the West Park Kiwanis Club. The deadline is June 20 to receive the regular rates: non-profit organizations pay $35. All others pay $70. After June 20, the registration fee is $100 for all. The parade steps off from Kamms Plaza heading east at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 4.

The Parade Marshall this year is Mary Ann Corrigan-Davis, President of St. Joseph Academy, which is celebrating its 125th Anniversary. The National Anthem will be performed by West Park resident Carol Silvay, who is a cantor at St. Patrick Church and volunteer at the Kamm's Corners Farmers Market. Be sure to watch the parade -- or participate with your community group. Additional details, including parade contact information, are in the application.

Senior Softball Team Seeks Players

The Ohio Rockers, a local senior women's softball team, is seeking competitive women softball players who are 50 to 55 years old. The team placed second in the 2013 National Senior Games. They're going to Minnesota from July 2 to 8, for the National Games, and they play in local tournaments. Interested? Email: [email protected].

The West Park Young Professionals (WPYP) will be hosting a meeting on Wednesday June 24, at P.J. McIntyre's Irish Pub, 17119 Lorain Avenue, in the party room on the lower level. Those interested in positions on the Executive Board should arrive at 6 p.m. Everyone else interested in participating with WPYP or learning more about WPYP should arrive at 7 p.m. The group members look forward to seeing everyone for a great night of community involvement and socializing.

Gardens in West Park will be among those featured by GardenWalk Cleveland the weekend of July 11 and 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Headquarters for West Park is West Park Station, 17015 Lorain Avenue, where garden locator maps will be available for this free, self-guided tour. Meet the police officers serving our community by attending the Cleveland Police First District Community Relations Board meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings are held at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 10205 Lorain Avenue. 

Calling all engaged community leaders! The Neighborhood Leadership Development Program offers a free, 15-session community engagement training program for residents of Cleveland and its inner ring suburbs who are working on projects in Cleveland. The deadline to apply is August 5. Learn more here.

Neighborhood Connections offers small grants to groups of residents in Cleveland to do projects that improve the quality of life in their communities. Grants range from $500 to $5,000. The next grant deadline 5 p.m. on Friday, August 14. Read more about the requirements here.
