Brussels Sprouts: Market active market due to decreased supply and quality issues from the Mexican growing region.


Cauliflower: Market is still extremely active. Current supply outlook is still bleak as we are still 2-3 weeks away from supplies increasing.


Lemons: Demand exceeds supplies on 140s and smaller, all grades.


Oranges: Demand exceeds supply on 88s/113s/138s both grades.


Iceberg: Demand continues to exceed supply. Quality remains fair with insect pressure, pinking, mechanical damage, bruising, and fringe burn noted. Markets are active.

Leaf Green & Red: Very low supplies, the market is extremely active with high demand. Quality is fair but improving; defects noted are under-sizing, mildew, and mud.

Romaine: Market is extremely active with limited supplies available. Defects include under-sizing, fringe burn, mildew, mud, "open shape," and insects being reported. 
 
 Commodity Report

Apples/Pears
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Apples: Red Delicious (peaking 72-88ct) are steady on most sizes, with larger sizes being most prevalent. Granny-Smiths (peaking 72-88ct) are also steady to higher on all sizes. Golden Delicious (peaking 72-88ct) and Honeycrisps (peaking 80-100ct) continue to strengthen due to greater demand and lighter supply. Galas and Fuji markets remain steady on larger sizes, but like most others are seeing limited volumes of 113ct and smaller. 

Pears:  D'anjous (peaking 80-100ct) are steady on all sizes with good quality. Bosc pears are finished for the season. Red pears are steady (peaking 50-size half cartons) with good quality.
 
Asparagus
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Mexican supplies are starting to decline as Caborca's season ends. Temps are expected to be warmer, affecting quality and sizing. Seeding is expected. Peruvian supplies remain very light with fair quality at best. However, Washington is starting and Baja is producing good quality and supplies.

Avocados
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
    
Overall market is active with increasing demand as May approaches. Mexican quality is good, but supplies remain light. California is producing adequate supplies with good quality. 

Broccoli
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short
 
Market remains firm, though relief is being seen. Better availability is being seen in all three growing regions: Salinas, Santa Maria, and Central Mexico. Quality is fair with some yellowing, open bead, and over and under-sizing. Crown sizing is improving, but ranges from 3-7 inches in diameter. 
 
Cauliflower
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short
 
Market remains extremely active with limited supply. High demand and fair quality overall, with white to cream color, minor yellowing and bruising visible. 
 
Cantaloupes
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
  
West Coast supplies are much lighter this week. Quality on has been very good.

Carrots
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Supplies remain good on Jumbo sizes.
 
Celery
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short
 
Market is strengthening. Quality is fair with discoloration, cracking, and twisting being reported. 

Cucumbers
Quality: Fair
Supply: Moderate

Market remains somewhat active due to lighter volumes being seen out of Mexico.

Eggplant
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

Choice is readily available, but Fancy's remain limited.
 
Grapes
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

Green: Imported green grapes arriving on the West Coast are being repacked domestically, improving overall quality to good.

Red: Seedless quality remains good with few defects. South America is slated to finish at the end of this month.

Honeydews
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market has improved, though staining and spotting continue to be seen. Overall quality remains good.

Iceberg
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short

Market remains active. Demand continues to exceed supply. Quality is fair with insect pressure, pinking, mechanical damage, bruising, and fringe burn noted. 

Leaf Lettuce
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short

Very low supplies, the market is extremely active with high demand. Quality is fair but improving. Defects include under-sizing, mildew, and mud. Romaine quality is fair with the following defects being seen: under-sizing, fringe burn, mildew, mud, "open shape," and insects. Very low supplies are available; the market is extremely active with high demand.

Quality is good, but demand is exceeding supply for smaller-sized fruit. Larger sizing is more plentiful. The District 2 harvest is increasing to meet demand.

The market has picked up over the past week on yellows, due to ID early shippers finishing, and diminished yields in TX. ID/WA supplies remain good into early/mid-May.

Quality is good, but 88/113/138 counts are very tight. Recent rains halted the harvest of Navels.

Peppers (Colored)
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short
 
Market is fairly steady. Mexico shipments continue through Nogales. Quality is fair to good.

Peppers (Green)
Quality: Good
Supply: Short
 
Market is fairly steady. Green bells have started in Coachella.
 
Pineapples
Quality: Good
Supply: Short
  
Market is somewhat active. Quality remains good. 
 
Potatoes
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

 Pineapple quality is good. Brix >=14.

Squash
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Volume and quality are good on both colors. Zucchini is still more readily available than yellow squash. 

Strawberries
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short

Market is strengthening. Quality is fair to good with medium/large sizing, occasional white shoulders, rain damage, and insect damage. Growers are working to reduce the effects of rain. 

Tomatoes
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Round: Markets are easing with very good quality being reported.

Roma: Market is fairly steady as supplies saw a slight improvement. Quality is fair to good.

Cherry & Grape - The cherry market remains relatively steady with good quality.
