 Commodity Report

Apples/Pears
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Apples:  New crop has Red Delicious (peaking 72/88ct). Golden Delicious continue to struggle with light supply due to strong demand.  Granny-Smiths (peaking 88-113ct) also continue to gain strength due to heightened demand and lighter supply. Galas (peaking 72/80/88/100ct) are steady with greater availability on larger sizes. Honeycrisps (peaking 48-64ct) remain steady, but also limited on smaller sizing. California Fuji's are finished for the season. Quality remains good among all varieties.

Pears:  Bartletts (peaking 80-100ct) and Crimson (peaking 40/45s) are steady out of Washington. Boscs remain fairly steady with smaller fruit being most readily available.  
 
Asparagus
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market remains steady. Good quality being seen out of Northern Baja Mexico and Peru. 

Avocados
Quality: Good
Supply: Short
    
Market is volatile as Mexican volumes continue to decline. New crop is immature and not expect to be ready for harvest until early to mid-October.  

Broccoli
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is unchanged with substantial supply. Quality is good out of all regions.

Cauliflower
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is steady. Quality remains good with minimal reports of defects.
 
Cantaloupes
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
  
Market is leveling out as demand decline. Overall quality remains good out the West Side. 

Carrots
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is steady on all sizes. Bakersfield continues to produce a healthy percentage of Jumbos. 
 
Celery
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is unchanged. Salinas and Santa Monica are in full production. Quality out of both regions is good.
     
Cucumbers
Quality: Fair
Supply: Moderate

Market remains fairly steady, despite the rain and heat having impacted supplies and quality out of Norther Baja. 
 
Eggplant
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

Market is unchanged with good volumes being seen out of the San Joaquin Valley. Quality is good overall with minimal scaring and misshapen product being reported.
 
Grapes
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

Green: Market is steady with adequate supplies. Quality remains good. 

Red: Market is steady with adequate supplies. Quality is good.
 
Honeydews
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market and demand remain steady. Growth and quality remain excellent as the weather continues to cooperate.

Iceberg
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

Market has steadied with supplies now exceeding demand. Overall quality is good with minimal defects being reported.

Leaf Lettuce
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

Market is steady on all leaf items as demand declines. Overall quality is good with above average weights for romaine, red, green and butter leaf items.

Supply: Short

Market remains volatile as Ventura crop wraps up amidst strong demand. Supplies of 140/165/200/235ct are very tight. Desert crop has begun minor production, but will likely lack until November. Mexican supply volumes remain light.
    
Limes
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short
 
Market is somewhat volatile as strong demand continues to be seen among all sizes. Quality is good overall with the new crop expected to begin producing better volumes of larger sizes shortly.

Onions
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market remains steady. Washington, Idaho and Oregon are steady on all colors, with larger sizes being most readily available. Overall quality remains good.
   
Oranges
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is active as supplies tighten on Valencias due to increased demand. Demand is exceeding supply on 113ct and 138ct. Overall quality remains good. Navels will not be available to relieve the market until the end of October. 

Peppers (Colored)
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is fairly steady as quality and supply improve. Red and Yellow bell availability is steadily increasing out of Fresno.

Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is somewhat volatile as the Central Valley begins to wrap up prior to transitioning down to Southern California.

Supply: Moderate
  
Market is fairly steady despite light supplies. Overall quality is good, with supplies expected to improve by the end of the month.

Market is steady throughout all regions. Quality and supply remain good.

Market steadying now that the new fields in Santa Maria have come online. Italian and yellow volumes volumes are steadily increasing now that Nogales has begun production. Quality remains fair to good.
