 Commodity Report

Apples/Pears
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Apples: Red Delicious (peaking 64-88ct) remain steady on all sizes. Golden delicious (peaking 70-88ct), Galas (peaking 72-100ct) and Fujis (peaking 72-88ct) are steady. Granny Smiths (peaking 72-88ct) are fairly steady, but lack availability on smaller sizing (100ct and greater). Honeycrisp (peaking 80-100ct) market remains somewhat active due to light supplies of lower grades. Red Romes, Jonagolds, Cameos and Braeburns have limited availability. Quality overall remains good among all varieties, with occasional scarring and bitter pits being reported.

Pears:  Bartletts (peaking 70-90ct), Bosc (peaking 80/100ct), Red pears (peaking 40-50ct) and D'anjou (peaking 80/100ct) all remain steady out of Washington. Smaller sizes of Bartletts, D'anjous remain limited. 
 
Asparagus
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market steady. Good quality currently being seen out of Mexico with compact tips and consistent sizing, however, recent winds and rain will likely have an impact on quality over the next few weeks. Peruvian supplies remain light.

Avocados
Quality: Fair

Market is extremely active. Lighter Mexican shipments continue, along with quality issues and California crop shortages/rain disruptions the market will likely remain volatile for several months to come.

Broccoli

Supply: Short
 
Market is active as supplies tighten due to heightened demand. Weather condition have impacted growth and field conditions. Quality issues include yellow/brown bead and pin rot. Supply and sizing issues expected to continue for the next 2 weeks.
 
Cauliflower
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short
 
Market is active. Weather conditions have impacted Mexico, Salinas Valley and Santa Maria. Limited supplies being seen out of Yuma. Supply and sizing issues expected to continue for the next 2 to 3 weeks. Quality is fair with riciness and yellow discoloration being reported. 
 
Cantaloupes
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
  
Market is steady despite 12ct being in very short supply. Quality remains excellent out of Honduras which is now the primary supplier.

Carrots
Quality: Fair
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is steady with adequate supply. Jumbo quality is fair to good. 
 
Celery
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate
 
Market is steady. Quality is good overall.

Cucumbers
Quality: Good
Supply: Moderate

Market is unchanged with good supply and quality being seen out of Honduras. 
 
Eggplant

Green: Market is steady as imports continue to bring in product to sustain both coasts. Overall quality has been good. Peak season will begin at the end of the month.

Red: Market remains steady with adequate supply. Red seedless are transitioning to Crimson variety. Quality remains good.

Supply: Short
 
Market is steady. West Coast supplies of smaller sizes is are very tight. Quality remains somewhat mixed.

Iceberg
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short

Market is active. Strong demand continues to drive down supplies that were already weakened by lower yields and continuing quality issues. 

Leaf Lettuce
Quality: Fair
Supply: Short

Market is active as supplies decline. Quality is fair to good with ribbiness, light twisting and seeder being the most commonly reported defects.

Supply: Short

Market is active. Rains continue to interrupt harvesting.
