The Blount Mansion Association presents Andrea Wulf, British author of Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation in a lecture, Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 2:00 p.m., Knoxville Museum of Art Auditorium; book signing and tea to follow.
Five Dollars per Person (Two Dollars per Student). Tickets may be purchased ahead of time by calling Blount Mansion at 865.525.2375 or may be purchased at the door. This beautifully illustrated talk looks at the lives of the founding fathers and how their attitude to plants, gardens, nature and agriculture shaped the American nation. For them gardening, agriculture and botany were elemental passions, as deeply ingrained in their characters as their belief in liberty for the nation they were creating. Award-winning historian Andrea Wulf reveals for the first time this aspect of the revolutionary generation.

Scruffy City Roots - Live from the Square Room!
Join us on Thursday, March 22 for the kickoff of Scruffy City Roots, a live radio and television show at the Square Room. Hosted by Scott Miller with artist interviews conducted by onsite journalist Jack Neely, Scruffy City Roots honors our region's role as the birthplace of popular musical genres - from the traditional mountain music from the hills of Appalachia; to the smoky, distinctly southern vibe of Memphis blues and soul; early rock & roll; and country - which is said to have been born in Bristol and raised in Knoxville before "going corporate" in Nashville. Each show features a variety of musical performances from both nationally touring and locally-based artists. They aren't all from Tennessee - some of them aren't even from the United States - but their music has been undeniably influenced by those styles popularized right in our backyard.
The premiere episode will feature the "Scruffy City All-Stars" with Erick Baker, Robinella, Cruz Contreras of The Black Lillies, Jill Andrews and a few surprise guests. Nashville's Rayland Baxter and Sony recording artists Delta Rae will also appear. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 day of show ($10 with a valid student ID). Scruffy City Roots is produced by Attack Monkey Productions and 4MS Entertainment and will be broadcast on WUTK and PBS. Additional support is provided by WBIR and the Central Business Improvement District.
