Marriott Moves Starwood Integration Forward
Marriott’s integration of its Starwood acquisition will take a large leap forward in August, when travelers will finally be able to book stays at any property on either the Marriott or Starwood website or app. Marriott will also update the SPG mobile app with the same mobile check-in, chat and room key functions the Marriott app already has.

Members of the Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) programs will also be able to combine their loyalty accounts into a single account (Marriott plans to introduce a new program name in 2019) – earning and redeeming points at all hotel brands and getting access to the same benefits. In addition, August will see Marriott introduce new elite tiers that make it easier for members to earn elite status, and it will expand some elite-tier rewards to more of its brands.

To make the transition to a single loyalty program, SPG members will see their points balance triple. All members will earn 10 points for every U.S. dollar they spend at most brands; they will earn only five points per U.S. dollar at Residence Inn, TownePlace Suites and Element (elite members often earn more with bonuses).
Marriott’s luxury Bulgari properties will remain outside the combined loyalty program.
