A Safe Haven for Animals
In this issue:
February 2017
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we thought a few of our friends could use a little nudge in the matchmaking department so we asked them to submit their "personal ads".

These swoon-worthy singles are seeking monogamous, long term relationships - as in, they prefer not to share you with other pets and they want to love you forever!

Can you help us find true love for these fabulous fur balls?

Pixie: Independent lady seeks mental stimulation and adult companionship; kids and other cats need not apply. As a smart, social and affectionate 3 y/o silver tabby, I'm looking for a kindred spirit to share new adventures with (leash walking is not just for dogs!). Looking to be charmed? Look me up here!

Marti: Mid-life crisis? On the one paw, I appreciate ever-so-civilized leash walks. On the other, I still want to zoom around the backyard like a pup. At 8 y/o, I'm in search of a currently pet-free companion to spend my golden years with. Special consideration for those who give good shoulder rubs and have older kids. Meet me in the middle?

Gigi: Where have I been all your life? Mature, full-figured 7 y/o Calico seeks your undivided attention... until I want to relish in a little "me time"! I might tolerate your teen humans, but want to be your only fur-baby. I require adoration as an indoor-only kitty in your zen-like abode. Come up and see me sometime, don't dawdle now...

Lil Bit: 6 y/o Boxer-mix seeks mature humans for long walks through the neighborhood and quiet evenings curled up on the couch. Not just another pretty face, I'm well-versed in the art of "sit" and "stay". You'll fall for my tiger-striped highlights and soulful brown eyes, but my snuggly brand of devotion will win your heart forever! Cats are a turn-off. Find me here!

Peanut: Brawny beefcake seeks the gentle touch. Underneath my buff 10 y/o exterior, I'm sweetly shy in new situations. Curious and sensitive, I prefer the company of grown-ups who can fill my life with a sense of structure and fun. I'd rather not share you with another cat, but might make an exception for your calm canine. Will you be the one to discover the real me?

UPDATE ON EBONY!
Ebony: lots of love and healing
in the "cone zone"!
Thursday was a big day for Ebony as she underwent surgery to repair a life-threatening congenital heart condition.

Dr. MacDonald,  t he cardiac specialist at the Animal Care Center, said Ebony did amazingly well . Sh e stayed o vernight for monitoring and rechecks, and managed to win the hearts of everyone at ACC -  n o surprises there!

Ebony was  in a stage of moderate heart failure before her surgery, but now that her c ond ition has been repaired her prognosis is very positive.  Even sporting her plastic e-collar, she looks great. She happily wags her tai l as ou r Vet Technician administers her medicine, and then she snuggles in for a restorative snooze.

Ebony's soft brown eyes  seem to sparkle at the promise of what the future now holds for her - a good, full life with someone to love and be loved by. We are so excited to think that one day soon she'll get to run and play and be the terrier she was born to be.

Many people have expressed interest in adopting this sweet girl, but until then Ebony will focus her energy on healing. She'll be recuperating in a quiet foster home (foster mom is a nurse!) for the next couple weeks and visiting our shelter hospital for regular veterinary monitoring.

Your support has helped us get Ebony to this point and we are so grateful. Thank you for being a part of her journey and please stay tuned for more updates!

HAPPY TAILS
Licorice is lovin' it!
This wonderful family came in looking for a four-legged family member to love. And Dad works at a care facility and wanted a dog who could go to work with him and bring smiles and comfort to the residents. They met with Licorice and instantly knew she was the one! Licorice had been doubling as a "front desk helper" at SHS, so we think she will be perfect for her new job.
And Sacramento makes four!
Sometimes Cupid's arrow does strike twice! A few years ago this sweet couple came into Sonoma Humane Society looking for a new pet. They fell in love with a young lab/border collie mix and adopted him. Fast forward a few years and the couple came in looking for a buddy for their dog. They met and fell in love with Sacramento, and the dogs were a great match too. Congrats to the whole family!

Lyric changes his tune!
Lyric came to us from an emergency vet hospital where he'd been surrendered with treatable health issues. At just 1 1/2 years old, his condition is easily managed with medication and diet - and lots of love in a low-stress household. Cue the orchestra: Lyric's handsome face and sensitive yet chatty demeanor tugged at this lovely lady's heartstrings and she wanted to give him all of the above. This love song is music to our ears!

Be a part of the equation!

Feeding the 2,700 animals we expect to help this year may seem like a daunting proposition. But, like any other goal, if we break it down into bite-sized chunks it becomes more manageable!
$50 feeds all the animals in our care for half a day, $100 provides meals for an entire day. It all adds up to full tummies and wagging tails!
