I would like to share an excellent resource for those whose lives have been affected by this tragedy. The book is called
Beginning to Heal (Revised Edition): A First Book for Men and Women Who Were Sexually Abused As Children. The authors are Ellen Bass and Laura Davis. These authors have also written other wonderful books on this topic, should you need more information. While other resources in this area might be considered by some to be intense and may discourage individuals from getting in-depth on the subject, this book offers a gentler approach and, in my opinion, allows the reader to progress at their own pace when they are ready. This book is full of bullet-pointed lists that spell out what to think about and process. It is very well written and clear. Please remember, though, that this book is a first step, not a beginning-to-end process. This book represents Step 1 of many in the hopes that it encourages individuals to take the next step and seek more intense assistance.
Examples of Chapter titles include Healing is Possible, the Emergency Stage, Breaking Silence, Grieving, and The Process of Change. There are "Stories of Courage" in this book that can give the reader increased confidence in their own process of healing.
Again, my hope is that those who need assistance with this issue begin to reach out and be courageous enough to surround themselves with a support system that helps them begin to heal. Maybe someday this issue will no longer be the force that holds amazing people from being their best.
Until next time.....look at life and your inspirations From The Positive Perspective.
