Passionate about

what I do

As many of you know, I am not technologically savvy at all. I do however, embrace great technology when I see it. I have done some research on how we can use technology to our advantage when we need a little help, and you believe there is no one to reach out to. Technology is by far my second choice when you feel stressed or worried but technology can be an alternative to feeling helpless.

The technology mentioned below can give you some options to address what you are feeling, but only as a second choice. Person to person connection should always be the number one choice.

I highly suggest you do your own research to find one or a combination of apps that work for you. I am merely highlighting the fact that technology has a good side and I encourage you to see what, if any of the suggestions below, fit for you.

Please pass along to family and friends who may be interested in the monthly content of this newsletter. Creating a web of knowledge helps those in need.

Sincerely,

From The Positive Perspective......

Apple's App of the Year for 2017 is called CALM. It is free on both Android and iPhone based systems. From what I read, the app can help to improve your sleep, reduce some anxiety and may even contribute to you feeling a little happier. The app works with meditation and relaxation to help you to destress. Music is also a factor on the site.

Headspace is also free. According to www.medicalnewstoday.com, this app's mission is to "provide you with the essential tools to achieve a happier, healthier life." This app addresses keeping your mind fit and reducing stress through themed meditation and mindfulness sessions.

SuperBetter is a game-focused app that helps increase resiliency and optimism when facing challenges in life. The University of Pennsylvania did a study and found that when people played this app, their symptoms of anxiety decreased and their belief in themselves had some improvement as well.

Mind Shift is a mental health app designed specifically for teens and young adults with anxiety. Instead of avoiding anxious feelings, Mind Shift stresses the importance of changing how you think about anxiety.

While these are just a few that have been recommended to me, there are so many others that can be of use with certain mental health issues. Please verify usage of these apps and potential cost if that is an issue.

If you are using an app that is helpful to you, please email me and I will pass along that information to my readers in a future newsletter.
