President's Perspective
"The Land of Opportunity"
United Way of Central Maryland President & CEO Mark Furst
Over the past few months, United Way Worldwide ventured into 120 local communities to conduct community conversations on the subject of "opportunity."
Conversations were held with groups of people in dozens of American cities and towns, and in 11 other countries around the globe.
United Way of Central Maryland participated by hosting three community conversations last month in Baltimore City, one of which was with a group of vulnerable youth.
It is rare to meet a couple as generous and compassionate as Fred and Ferie Mirmiran, who live by the credo "don't
just count your blessings; share them." United Way of Central Maryland is honored to announce that the Mirmirans have committed one million dollars to establish The Mirmiran Family Fund at United Way, a gift that will be made over the next five years to help more low-income local families with services related to financial stability, health and wellness, safety and education.
United Way of Central Maryland's 2-1-1 call center has partnered with Baltimore City on its Super Summer program, which provides meals and engagement activities all summer long to children from low-income families in Baltimore.
If you know a family who may benefit from the Super Summer program, please encourage them to dial 2-1-1 for more information.
