After not just one, but TWO fantastic performances this past Thursday afternoon during the Arroyo Seco 1st-3rd grade & 4th/5th grade lunches, we could not be more proud of the 2016-2017 Arroyo Seco School of Rock!
The 4 students enrolled in this after school program that the PTA so graciously lets us offer on the Arroyo Seco campus have been working hard at band practice every Monday afternoon this school year. Since September, the kids have gone from zero to rock star, starting out with no prior musical experience and growing to a full on concert performance, complete with impromptu hand clapping from the audience!
Check out the video on the left for a clip of the band playing a couple of classic rock and roll tunes, "Louie, Louie" and "500 Miles". The kids also performed "When I Come Around", "Hit the Road Jack" and "My Generation" at other performances, and began working on their own original song. Way to go, boys! It's been a great year of rock and roll!

William Bohrer
For May 2017, we would like to introduce a new addition to our staff, William Bohrer! Taking over for Swen (who is moving to China), William will be in on Mondays & Thursdays working with students on guitar, bass, cello, ukulele & piano.
|
|
William Bohrer, an enthusiastic, skilled & educated multi-instrumentalist, joined the Music Time Academy Staff just as he wrapped up intensive Music studies at The California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California. In his years at the Jazz Conservatory, William studied under Jeff Massanari and Steve Erquiaga, also studying bass with Jeff Denson. His prior music education included studies at West Valley College with Hristo Vitchev and Neil Kelly, plus a semester focusing on Brazilian fingerstyle guitar with Hugo Wainzinger and bass lessons from Gus Kambeitz.
William enjoyed the good fortune of starting music lessons at a very young age (hint, hint, parents), so he cannot even recall a time that he did not know music - what a fantastic feeling! First playing piano at the age of 6, William next switched to cello at 9 years old. At 12 years old, he added guitar into his music practice, while still continuing cello in and out of school music programs. He later picked up the bass & ukulele on a whim (because when you already play cello, guitar & piano you're pretty much an invincible musical superhero). When William entered college at age 17, he immediately began to play in multiple bands, which led him to also begin writing his own original music, in addition to working with vocalists to bring their songs to life.

FEATURED CONCERT:
Who:
Monterey International Pop Festival
Where:
Monterey County Fairgrounds
When:
June 16-18th
|
It happened in Monterey…
It was June 16, 17 & 18, 1967. The Monterey International Pop Festival takes place at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. A historic 3-day celebration of up and coming artists, relative unknowns and many future legends of the burgeoning rock scene unfolds. Rock and Roll is changed forever.
Serving as a key event leading up to the Summer of Love, the Monterey International Pop Festival not only jumpstarted the music-driven culture of the 60s and 70s, but continues to shape today’s global concert industry and festival landscape.
Exactly 50 years later to the day – June 16, 17 & 18, 2017 – the original Monterey Pop will be commemorated with a new event, Monterey International Pop Festival – Celebrates 50 Years. Held at the very same place where the legendary festival transpired, the 2017 celebration features performances by Jack Johnson, Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Leon Bridges, Norah Jones, The Head and The Heart, Father John Misty, Regina Spektor, Gary Clark Jr., Jim James and many more. The goal of this celebration is to memorialize Monterey Pop’s importance, legacy and lasting impact on contemporary culture with live music performances, unique experiential activations, historic memorabilia and art installations.
Lou Adler, one of the original Monterey International Pop founders who co-produced the 1967 festival, is involved once again. Lou said, “The Monterey International Pop Festival cannot be duplicated but can be celebrated and will be, by the performers and the attendees at the 50th Anniversary festival.”
Another Planet Entertainment and Goldenvoice in association with the Monterey International Pop Festival Foundation invite you to join us, 50 years later.
