Pentecost

Pentecost at First Church - Don't Miss It!
I am so excited about this Sunday at First Church! Pentecost is one of my favorite Sundays of the year, as we celebrate God's empowerment of the Church through the power of His Holy Spirit. It is also the 50th anniversary of the United Methodist Church.

But there is more. We will celebrate with the children the completion of their Spring Mission Project with Heifer Project International, which will include a surprise announcement. We will celebrate the ministry of Footprints our non-profit partnered ministry that serves children who grieve the experience of losing loved ones through death or divorce. We will also honor some 25 members of our 2018 graduating class.

To help us celebrate all that, we have as our guest preacher, Bishop J. Michael Lowry. He has been our Bishop since 2008 and has led us in a marvelous way. He is known throughout the nation for his preaching, teaching and leadership.

This would be a great Sunday to invite a friend or loved one to come to church with you and experience the excitement and power of being United Methodist followers of Christ. I will be serving as liturgist, so I will get to experience all of this right along with you. What a privilege it is to serve such a great and vibrant Church.

Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature

Memorial Sunday

Memorial Sunday...May we never forget freedom isn't free.
Next Sunday, May 27, we will share in a very meaningful remembrance of those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom as citizens of our nation. The services will include:
  • Patriotic music by the congregation and an original piece, "Come Take a Walk with God" by Tom Lough (congregation member) sung by Mike Rosensteel at the sanctuary services and by Brian Batch at CrossRoads.
  • A litany of thanksgiving and prayers for peace.
  • A memorial folder placed on the altar with names of those remembered. This Sunday, in the bulletin, there will be an insert on which you can submit the names of people you would like remembered in this memorial folder.
Immediately following the 11 am worship service, we hope you will join us for our Military and First Responder Network hosts our first wreath dedication at the flagpole near the Garden of the Saints columbarium in the south parking lot. You may contribute to the purchase of the 2018 Memorial Day Wreath by contacting Kathy Dance at finance@fumc-rr.org or 512.255.3336.

We are very grateful for our church's Military and First Responders Network for their assistance in developing this part of our worship on Memorial Day weekend. The MFRN offers community support and care for veterans and first responders along with their families.

POPS Concert

POPS 2018...an awesome evening of music, feelings and generosity!
A message from Robert Hall, founder of Boys to Men of God & Daughters of the King...
"The Pops concert was absolutely beautiful! And clearly a lot of hard work went into it. We are more than happy with the total monies collected. God is so good! 100% of the funds will be used to start an account that will be used to purchase property. We are not sure what that property is just yet, but we are taking a step of faith and going to trust God that He will give us the perfect place! We thank the Lord and your wonderful ministry. We will never be able to thank you and your ringers enough for your heart to bless these wonderful children."

Heifer Project

Children's Ministry Mission for Spring is the Heifer Project
For the entire spring semester, all children's Sunday School offerings are going toward the purchase of livestock for needy families. Each class selected a certain animal as their goal to purchase. Heifer International puts faith into action with its time proven principle of passing on the gift. Every family who receives livestock agrees to pass on one or more of its animal's offspring to another neighbor in need.
Heifer Project Update
We have a very exciting announcement to make on Sunday about the Heifer project! Hope to see you there!

Our next mission will be new or gently used school supplies, so save those supplies that come home from school with your child and have been only "gently used!"

The Villages team is hosting Mission Month every Sunday in June in the common area next to Payne Cottage in between services. Each week, different active missions will have volunteers and information available to help you learn about the many awesome things our church is doing locally and internationally and providing an easy way for you to get engaged.
