General Board dialogues, worships, casts vision
The General Board of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) met in Indianapolis in April. Board members used a new model for learning about the ministries reporting to them. Bible study and worship were foundational to the visioning process. General Minister and President Sharon Watkins shared her thoughts on where the Church is headed. Rev. April Johnson of Reconciliation Ministry spoke to our need to keep moving toward being a pro-reconciling community of faith. Full report, text and audio of Johnson's and Watkins' sermons and more.
Reconciliation Ministry offers grants to encourage action
Reconciliation Ministry is accepting grant proposals for 2013 programs that advance the Church's mission priority of becoming a pro-reconciling/anti-racist church. Successful programs in last season's granting process seeded funding for opportunities for young congregational leaders to engage in cross cultural dialogue through HELM's Disciples Leaders Institute, Northern California and Nevada Region's infusion of their leadership program with anti-racism values, two congregation-based organizing affiliates F.A.I.T.H. and BREAD in their campaign to address economic disparities and juvenile detention rates in their communities, as well as to support the annual NAPAD Youth retreat.
